Job Summary (List Format)
Position: Senior Full Stack Engineer (Backend Focus)
Location: Remote (Preference for local candidates near Reston, VA)
Duration: 3-6+ months
Core Responsibilities
Lead a team of software engineers in design, development, and implementation of applications (with backend technology focus ~80%).
Move specific workflows from mainframe systems to cloud database technologies.
Design, code, test, and document complex application programs and systems.
Perform and lead detailed technical design, coding, code reviews, and testing for new and existing applications.
Serve as subject matter expert for specified systems and applications.
Work with end-users and stakeholders to define system scope, requirements, and objectives.
Support Project Manager as technical team lead, including estimating technical costs and project planning.
Identify technical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and introduce industry best practices and standards.
Manage technical resources including hardware, software, licenses, and services.
Mentor junior engineers and review their work.
Ensure compliance with DevSecOps, code quality, deployment standards, and CI/CD practices.
Contribute to architectural decisions, product scoping, and roadmap discussions.
Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and recommend improvements.
Required Skills & Experience
8+ years in software design, development, testing, and requirements management.
Mandatory experience with Java and Angular 18+.
Strong experience with databases (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, SQL, Oracle, cloud databases).
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.).
Bachelor s degree in IT, Computer Science, or 4 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
Experience with front-end and back-end programming and integration frameworks.
Strong knowledge of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
Proficient in test-first practices (TDD, BDD) and automated testing.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with all levels of stakeholders.
Experience deploying global applications and configuration management.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to decompose requirements and provide conceptual designs, prototypes, and tests.
Experience evaluating and procuring hardware/software technologies.
Advanced knowledge of integrating complex/existing systems.
Familiarity with multiple programming languages (JavaScript, C, Python, etc.).
Demonstrated leadership in technical teams and mentoring junior developers.
Proficient at establishing strong working relationships and communicating technical requirements.
