About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Mentor A Promise is a New York City–based nonprofit serving children and youth (ages 5–18) experiencing housing instability, grounded in the belief that every child is a Promise—full of potential, dignity, and possibility. We deliver consistent, high-quality programming across mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, and creative expression in shelters, schools, and community spaces, creating structured environments where students can grow, be seen, and build lasting skills. Through signature experiences like The Imagination Studio, The Kitchen Table, The Sound Lab, and The Story Space, we nurture academic development, emotional well-being, and creative voice, all within a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and accessibility-centered framework. Our work prioritizes dignity-protective storytelling, consent-driven engagement, and deep community partnership, ensuring that how we serve is as intentional as whom we serve. We are not only addressing immediate needs - we are building pathways to confidence, belonging, and long-term opportunity, so every child has the support and foundation to carry their promise forward.

Studio Operations
PromiseStudios should operate as a studio of specialized creative disciplines—not a collection of disconnected projects.
The President of Production helps make that possible.
Role Overview
MAP is seeking an experienced President of Production to serve as the senior production executive responsible for how PromiseStudios turns creative ideas into completed work.
This leader will build and oversee the production infrastructure connecting development, pre-production, production, post-production, delivery, and archival across the studio.
The President of Production does not replace MAP's creative leadership.
Creative leaders determine what PromiseStudios should create and establish the creative vision.
The President of Production determines how the studio can responsibly produce it.
The central question is
How do we build a production organization capable of taking ambitious creative ideas from concept to completion—without losing the vision, the people, or the discipline required along the way?
Studio-Wide Production Leadership
Lead production strategy across PromiseStudios.
Provide production oversight for projects involving
Film
Animation
Photography
Music
Audio
Podcasts
Motion graphics
Visual effects
Original content
Digital media
Branded creative work
Cross-disciplinary productions
Special creative initiatives
Establish production standards that can accommodate different creative disciplines without forcing every project through an identical process.
A short animated film and a photography project should not require the same production system.
They should require the same level of production discipline.
From Development to Delivery
Build a studio-wide production lifecycle
Concept → Development → Greenlight → Pre-Production → Production → Post-Production → Review → Delivery → Distribution Readiness → Archive → Learning
Establish clear expectations at each stage.
Before production begins, teams should understand
What are we creating?
Who owns the creative direction?
Who is producing it?
What resources are required?
What is the scope?
What are the deliverables?
What dependencies exist?
What rights must be addressed?
What is the timeline?
What does finished mean?
Production should not begin simply because everyone is excited about the idea.
Production Portfolio
Maintain visibility across PromiseStudios' complete production portfolio.
Develop systems for understanding

Production schedules

Studio leadership should be able to understand what PromiseStudios is making without asking twenty different people.
Greenlight & Production Readiness
Help establish a disciplined process for determining whether a project is ready to enter production.
Evaluate
Creative Readiness → Scope → Talent → Resources → Schedule → Rights → Risk → Production Capacity → Delivery Requirements → Decision
The President of Production should be empowered to identify when a project is creatively exciting but operationally unprepared.

Final delivery
Creative ambition should be supported by production reality.
The President of Production should not make ambitious ideas smaller simply because they are difficult.
The role should help the studio understand what those ideas require to become real.

This may include
Executive Producers
Senior Producers
Creative Producers

Film Producers

Creative Leadership Partnership
Work closely with the Chief Creative Officer and Creative Directors.
Maintain a clear distinction
Creative leadership owns the vision.
Production leadership owns the pathway that makes the vision executable.
When creative leaders propose changes, production should explain the implications
