Paid-on-call firefighters are integral members of the Campbell River Fire Department, working alongside full-time firefighters in the provision of fire and rescue services to the City of Campbell River.
Paid-on-call firefighters provide an efficient and effective service to the community in the preservation of life, property and the environment. They perform the basic functions of fire protection involving:
The containment of structural and environmental fires
The rescue of citizens involved in motor vehicle incidents
The containment of fires and spills involving motor vehicles
Support of Technical Rescue and Hazardous Materials Operations
What we offer: The starting rate of pay for Paid-on-Call Firefighters as Recruits is $18.75 per hour.

Paid-On-Call Firefighter Application Process
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
Must be 19 years of age or older at time of application
Legally entitled to work in Canada
Live within the Campbell River Fire Protection Area
Ability to complete a satisfactory Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check
Meet the NFPA standards for medical, vision and hearing (to be assessed during the recruitment process)
Hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or Class 7 if driving less than 4 years) with less than 7 points in the past 3 years
Essential Attributes:

Able to physically perform the duties;

You will be expected to be able to perform the following duties:
Combating, extinguishing and preventing fires and the saving of life and property;
Responding to fire alarms, laying and connecting hose, directing water streams, raising and climbing ladders, using portable extinguishers, and other firefighting, rescue and safety tools and equipment;
Searching for and rescuing people from danger and administering first-aid to the injured;
Ventilating premises to release heat and smoke, placing salvage covers to prevent water damage;
As assigned, driving and operating motor driven firefighting equipment;
Performing routine housekeeping and routine maintenance of fire department equipment and fire stations;
Participating in training, drills and practice sessions;
Participating in rescue and safety, or public service call activities; taking responsibility for effective disposition of such emergencies;
Participating in community events and fundraising activities.
