Software Engineering builds the brains of Waymo's fully autonomous driving technology. Our software allows the Waymo Driver to perceive the world around it, make the right decision for every situation, and deliver people safely to their destinations. You will:
Conduct ML modeling experiments and prototyping to build state-of-the-art evaluation tools.
Write code within Waymo’s simulator and evaluation systems.
Design statistical experiments to evaluate the efficacy of ML discriminators.
Collaborate across organizations to deliver impact to both onboard teams and downstream safety and simulation technology launch stakeholders.
You have:
Enrolled in a graduate program (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field.
Proficiency in software development using C++ or Python.
Solid foundation in core computer science concepts (data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design).
Solid foundation in ML and statistics models, algorithms, and libraries.
Knowledge of software systems, including distributed systems and accelerated computing.
Interest in autonomous driving, simulation, evaluation, and physical AI.
We prefer:
Knowledge/prior experience with physical systems (physics, robotics, physical AI).
Proficiency in SQL.
Strong written/verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

The expected hourly rate for this full-time position is listed below. Interns are also eligible to participate in the Company’s generous benefits programs, subject to eligibility requirements.
Hourly Masters Pay
$70—$70 USD
