Duties & Responsibilities
You will be primarily responsible for the following job duties and will be expected to have sufficient experience handling the following matters with minimal supervision:
Provide day-to-day legal counsel to municipalities across a range of legal issues.
Assist in handling complex municipal litigation matters, including business and construction contract disputes, Texas Tort Claims Act issues, constitutional rights, governmental immunity, and other municipal litigation.
Draft and file pleadings, motions and other legal documents.
Conduct legal research and analysis to support case strategy.
Participate in discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, document requests, and depositions.
Attend court hearings, arbitrations, and mediations.
Collaborate with senior attorneys and clients to develop case strategies.
Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
Stay up to date on changes in municipal litigation laws and procedures.
Meet a minimum monthly billable hour requirement of 140 hours.
Qualifications
J.D. from an accredited law school.
Active Texas Bar license in good standing.
At least 2-3 years of experience handling active litigation, preferably advising municipalities as in-house or outside general counsel. Insurance defense experience will be considered.
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication abilities, including public speaking and drafting for a government audience.
Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse workload with independence and sound judgment.
Capacity to thrive in a remote-first environment while meeting a minimum monthly billable hour requirement of 140 hours.
Flexible and responsive to evolving client needs, including occasional evening meeting attendance.
