Volunteer: Squarespace Website Navigation and Mission Clarity Audit

This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections.
Our Squarespace website has grown over time and is no longer as simple or intuitive to navigate. We serve several audiences — women seeking support, referral partners, healthcare and community organizations, sponsors, donors, and institutional partners — and visitors currently cannot quickly understand where to go, what applies to them, and what action to take without clicking through unnecessary pages or reading excessive content. Our priority is to simplify navigation, information architecture, and user journeys, not to rebrand or perform a full redesign. We also want messaging or positioning issues identified only where they create confusion in the user experience.
We are looking for a volunteer with User Experience Design expertise to help our organization simplify site navigation, clarify user journeys, and produce a prioritized implementation plan we can apply in Squarespace. The volunteer will: - Audit our current website navigation and page structure and deliver a written audit that identifies navigation pain points and confusing page groupings - Provide a recommended simplified sitemap and primary navigation (top-level labels and hierarchy) - Produce clear user journeys for women seeking support, organizational/referral partners, and donors/sponsors that indicate entry points, key pages, and intended actions for each audience - Recommend which pages or sections should be kept, combined, moved, hidden, or removed - Recommend clearer calls to action and improved page-to-page flow to reduce unnecessary clicks and content overload - Review mobile navigation and usability and note mobile-specific adjustments needed - Deliver a prioritized, practical implementation plan we can use to make the changes in Squarespace We can provide access to our current website, organizational positioning and business model, partnership materials, existing website mockups and planning documents, and examples of navigation confusion to support the work.
