Review & Accruals: Review journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial schedules; oversee player-related expense accruals, prize money disbursements, and event accounting.
Subsidiary & Entity Oversight: Direct accounting operations, tracking certification fees, testing costs, and operational expenses.
Sponsorship & Event Revenue Accounting (ASC 606)
ASC 606 Revenue Recognition: Manage complex sponsorship agreement accounting under ASC 606—overseeing milestone performance obligations, customer billing schedules, and collections.
Commissions & Partnerships: Calculate and process internal/external sales commission payouts, working closely with commercial teams to ensure accurate contract setups.
Leadership & Team Management
Direct Team Supervision: Manage, mentor, and develop a 4-person accounting staff—providing continuous feedback, workload distribution, and professional development.
Culture of Accountability: Foster a collaborative, high-performance environment focused on meeting tight reporting deadlines as the organization expands.
Audit, Tax & Process Improvement
External Audit Leadership: Lead annual external financial statement audits as the primary point of contact for external auditors.
Tax Compliance: Coordinate corporate tax filings with external advisors and manage sales tax compliance for ticket sales and player registration fees.
System Automation: Identify process bottlenecks, document internal controls/SOPs, and implement financial software enhancements to scale accounting operations.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education & Credentials: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred).
Professional Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including direct people management (supervising accounting staff/teams).
U.S. GAAP & Revenue Recognition: Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, specifically technical revenue recognition rules (ASC 606) applied to complex contracts.
Multi-Entity & Audit Management: Proven track record managing multi-entity financial closes, leading external audits, and managing multi-state sales tax compliance.
Leadership & Communication: Strong leadership skills, high analytical capability, and clear executive communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Industry experience in sports, live events, entertainment, media, or hospitality.
Hands-on experience with sports sponsorship accounting, player prize money administration, or ticket sales tax processes.
Success Metrics (KPIs)
Financial Close Velocity: Delivering accurate, audit-ready monthly and quarterly close packages within scheduled deadlines.
ASC 606 Revenue Compliance: Flawless tracking and revenue recognition scheduling across all active PPA Tour and MLP sponsorship agreements.
Audit Execution: Leading clean, unadjusted annual financial statement audits with zero material weaknesses or control deficiencies.
Team Development: Driving performance improvement and professional growth across the 4-person accounting team.
