Director of Accounting — Insurance & Investments

Job Summary
The Director of Accounting leads the accounting and financial reporting function across the organization, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial information. In an insurance and investment environment, the role requires strong expertise in insurance accounting, investment accounting, financial reporting, consolidation, technical accounting, regulatory compliance, and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the organization's accounting and controllership function.
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
Prepare and review statutory and management financial statements.
Manage general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Oversee insurance accounting, including premiums, claims, reserves, commissions, and reinsurance.
Manage investment accounting, including portfolio valuation, investment income, fair-value accounting, and reconciliations.
Lead consolidation and intercompany accounting for multiple entities.
Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with IFRS/GAAP, insurance regulations, tax requirements, and regulatory reporting.
Coordinate external and internal audits.
Strengthen internal controls and financial governance.
Provide technical accounting guidance on complex transactions.
Partner with Finance, Investment, Actuarial, Treasury, Risk, Tax, and Compliance teams.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as required.
Present accounting and reporting matters to the CFO, senior management, and Audit Committee.
Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and financial reporting teams.
Ideal Candidate Profile
10–15+ years of accounting and finance experience.
5+ years in a senior accounting/controllership leadership role.
Strong experience in financial reporting, technical accounting, consolidation, and financial controls.
Experience within insurance, investment management, asset management, banking, or financial services preferred.
Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP, particularly financial instruments and insurance-related accounting.
Experience with investment accounting and portfolio reporting.
Experience managing audits and regulatory reporting.
Professional qualification such as CA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA, or equivalent preferred.
Strong people-management and stakeholder-management experience.
