Role Overview
We are looking for a Data Engineer to join a large-scale data migration project, with Databricks as the core data engineering platform.
The main focus will be extracting, transforming, cleansing, validating and migrating data from legacy systems into SAP S/4HANA, MDM and other enterprise data platforms.
We are open to both freelance/contractor and permanent employment arrangements.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop ETL/ELT and data migration pipelines in Databricks.
Extract, cleanse, transform and map data from multiple legacy source systems.
Develop scalable transformations using PySpark, Python and SQL.
Perform data quality checks, validation and reconciliation between source and target systems.
Support migration testing, migration rehearsals and production cutovers.
Troubleshoot migration issues and ensure data completeness, consistency and traceability.
Collaborate with technical and business teams to define data mappings and transformation rules.
Key Skills
Strong hands-on experience with Databricks.
Strong experience in data migration and ETL/ELT projects.
PySpark, Python and SQL.
Experience with data mapping, cleansing, transformation, validation and reconciliation.
Experience working with large datasets and complex transformation rules.
Knowledge of Delta Lake and modern data architectures.
Git and CI/CD experience.
Highly Valued
Experience with SAP S/4HANA data migrations.
Experience with Master Data Management (MDM) migrations.
Experience migrating data to other enterprise data platforms.
Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) and Azure Data Factory.
Medallion Architecture.
Azure DevOps.
Experience with Azure Functions and Azure Service Bus.
Location & Contract
Candidates based in the European Union are preferred, with particular preference for candidates based in Malta.
The opportunity is open to both freelance/contractors and permanent employees.
Candidates should be able to work within European business hours and collaborate with a distributed international team.
