Job Title: Energy Engineer (HVAC Rebate & Utility Compliance Consultant)
Job Type: Contract / Temporary
Location: Fort Lee, NJ / Cliffside Park, NJ (Hybrid / Flexible Remote with options for local meetings)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Energy Engineer or Utility Program Consultant for a focused, project-based consultation. We are currently executing an HVAC replacement project through the PSE&G Direct Install (DI) Incentive Program.
We need a technical expert who thoroughly understands New Jersey utility programs to review, validate, and consult on the complex PSE&G Excel Workbook submission to ensure total compliance and maximize our incentive approval.
Responsibilities
Workbook Consultation: Review and audit our project’s PSE&G Direct Install / Prescriptive Excel Workbook.
Technical Compliance: Ensure all HVAC equipment models, efficiency metrics (SEER2, EER2, COP, etc.), and operational data align precisely with PSE&G program criteria and the NJ Technical Reference Manual (TRM) [NJ TRM].
Application Optimization: Identify any formatting issues, calculation gaps, or missing documentation (spec sheets, measure types) to avoid utility rejection and secure approval.
Collaborative Review: Meet with our project team (in-person locally in Bergen County or via Zoom/Teams) to walk through the workbook adjustments.
Qualifications
Proven PSE&G Experience: Direct experience processing, reviewing, or submitting applications for the PSE&G Direct Install (DI), Prescriptive, or Small Business Energy Saver programs.
Technical Expertise: Strong background in commercial/residential HVAC systems, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), controls, and energy efficiency calculations.
Excel Mastery: Advanced proficiency in navigating and troubleshooting complex utility-provided Excel worksheets and data fields.
Strong Communication: Ability to clearly explain utility submission bottlenecks and guide contractors on required documentation.
Compensation & Schedule
Highly Flexible: We are open to a flat project-based fee (one-time) or an hourly rate, completely open to negotiation based on your expertise.
Flexible Hours: Perfect as a side project or independent consulting gig. Work can be done on your own schedule around existing full-time commitments.
