Company Description: ECSA – European Citizen Science Association – is a non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing the Citizen Science movement across Europe and beyond. The association brings together around 200 individual and organisational members from more than 28 countries, forming a diverse, collaborative network of practitioners, researchers, and communities.
Role Description:
We are looking for an experienced freelance Ruby on Rails developer to design and build the public website for an EU-funded Horizon Europe project.
The website will be the project’s central public information point and should be professional, accessible, mobile-responsive and easy for our team to update after launch. The first delivery phase is required by mid-December, although an earlier launch would be highly valued.
Scope of work:
You will create a Ruby on Rails-based website with a simple, secure administration area for non-technical staff to manage pages, news, events, partner information, images and downloadable documents.
The initial site will include pages such as:
Home, About and project information
Codes of Practice
Knowledge Valorisation Hub (initial landing page)
Training & Events
News and article pages
Partners, Contact and Legal pages
For the later development (not included in this faze): The platform should also be designed with future expansion in mind, including potential features such as a resource directory, registration tools, self-assessments and user accounts.
We are looking for:
Demonstrable Ruby on Rails experience
Experience delivering responsive, content-managed public websites
Familiarity with accessibility, SEO, website security and privacy/cookie requirements
Ability to set up analytics, secure contact forms and basic spam protection
Clear communication and availability to meet the December deadline
Qualifications
Back-End Web Development skills, with professional experience in Ruby on Rails.
Front-End Development using modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks.
Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.
Ability to work effectively in a diverse, interdisciplinary team and communicate technical concepts clearly.
