Role Overview
We're looking for a Product Owner to own the product backlog and support the day-to-day delivery of value for one or more product initiatives. You'll act as a key link between business stakeholders and the development team, translating requirements into clear, well-prioritized backlog items, while being comfortable enough with technical concepts to follow conversations with engineers and ask the right questions. This role is a good fit for someone who wants to keep growing their technical depth while owning real day-to-day product decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Backlog Ownership & Prioritization
Own, groom, and prioritize the product backlog based on business value, user needs, and technical feasibility.
Write clear, well-structured user stories and acceptance criteria that development teams can act on without ambiguity.
Balance short-term delivery needs with the longer-term product roadmap and strategy.
Make day-to-day scope and trade-off decisions to keep the team unblocked and delivery on track.
Technical Collaboration & System Understanding
Participate in conversations with engineers and architects to understand technical constraints, dependencies, and integration points before finalizing scope.
Help translate technical considerations (e.g., performance, security, data flows) into terms stakeholders can understand, with support from senior technical peers when needed.
Read technical documentation, API references, and basic architecture diagrams well enough to write accurate, technically informed requirements.
Support Engineering in surfacing and documenting technical debt or platform-related backlog items alongside feature work.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Act as the primary point of contact between business stakeholders, Product Management, and the development team.
Gather, clarify, and translate business requirements into actionable product backlog items.
Communicate progress, risks, and trade-offs clearly to stakeholders, managing expectations proactively.
Partner closely with UX/Design, QA, and Engineering throughout the full delivery lifecycle.
Agile Delivery & Team Enablement
Actively participate in and support Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, backlog grooming, reviews, retrospectives).
Clarify requirements and answer questions for developers and QA throughout the sprint.
Validate delivered work against acceptance criteria and provide timely feedback.
Identify and help resolve dependencies, blockers, and scope risks before they impact delivery.
Data-Informed Decision Making
Use data, user feedback, and business metrics to inform prioritization and backlog decisions.
Define and track success metrics for delivered features, iterating based on results.
Conduct or support gap analysis and root cause analysis to identify improvement opportunities.
Requirements
Must-Have
2–4 years of experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role owning a product backlog for technical/software products.
Solid experience writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting backlog prioritization.
Knowledge of Agile methodologies and Scrum, with hands-on experience in Agile ceremonies.
Working technical fluency: comfortable reading API documentation and basic architecture diagrams, and asking informed questions in technical conversations.
Experience with Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence) or similar product/backlog management tools.
Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to translate business needs into clear, actionable requirements.
Ability to use data to identify bottlenecks and support prioritization decisions.
Comfortable operating in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities.
Advanced English (C1) — required for daily written and verbal communication with US-based, cross-cultural teams.
Highly Valued
Deeper technical fluency: prior experience directly leading trade-off discussions with engineers/architects (build vs. buy, technical debt prioritization).
Experience owning products in the healthcare domain (e.g., HIPAA-regulated systems, EHR/EMR platforms, payer/provider systems).
Experience with governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) processes for regulated products.
Experience owning products in other regulated or complex domains (e.g., fintech, enterprise SaaS).
Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or equivalent certification.
Experience working directly with US-based clients or distributed, cross-cultural teams.
Familiarity with UX research or usability testing practices.
Experience in startup or client-facing consulting environments.
