Chief Technology Officer

The opportunity. We are seeking a hands-on Chief Technology Officer for one of our clients. The role combines company-wide technology leadership with meaningful involvement in architecture, engineering quality and delivery.
Role overview
You will take ownership of the technology function and provide clear direction across product engineering, cloud infrastructure, data flows and connected systems. You will work closely with senior business stakeholders, translate commercial priorities into a credible technical roadmap and help an experienced engineering team make sound architectural and delivery decisions.
What you will own
• Set the technical strategy, architecture principles, roadmap and delivery priorities.
• Lead the engineering function through technical credibility, clarity and constructive challenge.
• Stay close to implementation through architecture decisions, design reviews, code reviews and targeted hands-on work.
• Strengthen reliability, observability, release discipline, integration testing and the scalability of distributed and connected systems.
• Partner with executive, product and commercial stakeholders while developing engineering capability, ownership and succession.
What we are looking for
• Strong software engineering foundations and the ability to make high-quality architectural decisions.
• Experience as a Tech Lead, Staff or Principal Engineer, Head of Engineering, CTO or in comparable technical leadership.
• Experience with Linux, shell automation, cloud-native infrastructure and production networking.
• Experience guiding senior engineers and creating alignment without relying on top-down control.
• Experience delivering complex software projects from requirements and architecture through release and operation.
• Experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, networking, connected devices or software-hardware products.
• Fluent German and English communication skills.
Useful additional experience
• Go or another modern backend or systems programming language.
• Message-driven architectures, relational databases and cross-system integration testing.
Leadership approach
The team values autonomy, technical depth, respectful communication and practical decision-making. The CTO is expected to create context and direction, remove obstacles and raise engineering standards while preserving ownership within the team.
