IBM Senior Support Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an IBM Senior Support Engineer based in India.
This role leads technical delivery across IBM i / AS/400 environments within managed services and project-based engagements. You will help ensure mission-critical platforms remain secure, stable, compliant, and operationally efficient. The position combines hands-on infrastructure expertise with technical leadership across patching, upgrades, migrations, automation, high availability, and disaster recovery. You will work closely with enterprise clients and senior technical stakeholders to translate business objectives into practical technical roadmaps. The role also supports modernization initiatives involving APIs, integrations, automation, and hybrid cloud architectures. It is well suited to an experienced IBM i professional who can combine deep technical knowledge with strong client-facing and delivery capabilities.
Accountabilities
Lead technical delivery for IBM i / iSeries managed services and project engagements, including planning, risk management, dependencies, mitigation actions, and delivery milestones.
Drive IBM i security initiatives covering user profile governance, authority management, auditing, compliance reviews, MFA integrations, vulnerability remediation, and system hardening.
Analyze and resolve performance issues involving CPU, memory, disk, job subsystems, Db2 for i workloads, and application execution.
Provide technical guidance on IBM i infrastructure architecture, automation, integrations, deployments, upgrades, migrations, and platform readiness.
Design, test, validate, and deploy patching, PTF management, monitoring, compliance, and operational processes across development, QA, and production environments.
Administer and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including PowerHA, MIMIX, Quick-EDD, iCluster, and backup/recovery testing.
Support IBM Power Systems infrastructure, including PowerVM, LPARs, virtual I/O, storage connectivity, firmware maintenance, and platform lifecycle planning.
Establish standardized and scalable technical approaches that improve platform stability, security, compliance, maintainability, and operational efficiency.
Act as a primary client-facing technical contact, translating business objectives and requirements into roadmaps, execution plans, milestones, and recommendations.
Support managed services delivery and pre-sales solutioning with IBM and third-party vendors for upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery, hardware, and service expansion.
Contribute to modernization initiatives involving REST APIs, web services, integration platforms, automation frameworks, and hybrid cloud architectures.
Support complex operational scenarios, including system outages, PTF failures, HA role swaps, disaster recovery tests, IPL planning, P1/P2 application incidents, and JD Edwards environments.
Requirements
7+ years of consulting, managed services, or enterprise infrastructure experience, including hands-on IBM i / AS/400 administration, maintenance, patching, or upgrade experience.
Strong knowledge of IBM i / iSeries operations, IBM Power Systems, PTF management, high availability, disaster recovery, monitoring, and platform governance.
Hands-on experience administering IBM i operating systems, including user profiles, subsystems, job scheduling, BRMS, system values, TCP/IP services, printing, security, and performance monitoring.
Working knowledge of IBM Power Systems hardware, PowerVM virtualization, HMC administration, LPAR management, firmware maintenance, and storage integration.
Experience with one or more IBM i high availability technologies such as MIMIX, PowerHA, Quick-EDD, or iCluster.
Familiarity with Db2 for i administration, SQL performance analysis, database maintenance, backup strategies, and application troubleshooting.
Experience with automation and scripting technologies such as CL, RPG utilities, SQL Services, ACS Run SQL Scripts, Python, Ansible, or PowerShell.
Demonstrated experience leading technical delivery activities, projects, workstreams, or small-to-moderate teams in client-facing environments.
Ability to engage senior technical stakeholders, translate requirements into actionable plans, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience developing automated testing, validation, monitoring, compliance, or operational tooling for IBM i / AS/400 environments.
Strong problem-solving, documentation, quality, follow-through, collaboration, and service delivery governance skills.
IBM i, Power Systems, or ITIL certifications are preferred, along with equivalent relevant industry experience.
Prior consulting or managed services experience is preferred, including familiarity with ITIL, change management, incident management, vendor coordination, and scheduled off-hours support.
