Psychiatry expert witness

Expert Court Reports Ltd is expanding its panel of independent expert witnesses and is currently welcoming applications from Consultant Forensic Psychiatrists with an interest in developing or expanding their medico-legal practice.
We work with solicitors, barristers, courts, tribunals and public bodies across the UK, providing access to experienced independent experts for a wide range of legal matters.
As a member of our expert panel, you will undertake medico-legal instructions on a case-by-case basis, allowing you to fit this work around your existing clinical and professional commitments.
Our panel model is designed to support experts with the administrative and operational aspects of medico-legal work, allowing you to concentrate on your specialist expertise.
ECR can support panel experts with identifying and facilitating suitable instructions, liaising with instructing solicitors and other professionals, managing case administration, handling invoicing and payment collection, and providing established systems and processes for managing medico-legal cases.
You remain an independent expert and retain responsibility for your professional judgement, opinions and reports. Experts set their own fees based on their qualifications, experience and the requirements of each individual instruction.
There is no requirement to accept every instruction offered. The panel provides flexibility, allowing experts to consider each opportunity alongside their existing professional commitments.
We are particularly interested in Consultant Forensic Psychiatrists with experience of complex psychiatric and forensic presentations, including matters involving criminal proceedings, family proceedings, the Court of Protection, mental health, capacity, risk assessment and other forensic psychiatric issues.
Applicants should have GMC registration and appropriate specialist registration in psychiatry, consultant-level forensic psychiatry experience, strong report-writing and analytical skills, and an understanding of the responsibilities of an independent expert witness.
Previous medico-legal experience is welcomed. We are also interested in hearing from suitably experienced psychiatrists who are looking to develop their expert witness practice and are willing to undertake appropriate medico-legal training.
