HGV Driver/Yard Operative

About the role
This is a diverse, hands-on role combining local driving duties with yard and warehouse operations. You'll play a key role in ensuring trailers, vehicles, and freight move safely and efficiently through the depot while supporting the wider operation.
You will be responsible for:
Completing local collections and deliveries in a safe, professional, and timely manner
Shunting, positioning, and parking trailers around the yard to maximise efficiency and support operational requirements
Carrying out daily vehicle checks, jet washing, and maintaining vehicle and trailer cleanliness
Loading and unloading trailers, flatbeds, and containers using a counterbalance forklift
Securing loads safely using appropriate restraint methods and ensuring vehicles are prepared for transport
Supporting warehouse operations with stock movements, inventory checks, and general warehouse duties
Maintaining accurate paperwork, delivery documentation, and operational records while ensuring high standards of housekeeping throughout the depot
About you
You'll hold a valid Category C or C+E HGV licence, along with a current Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card. An in-date Counterbalance Forklift Licence is essential, and a Tug Licence would be advantageous.
You'll have previous experience within transport, yard, warehouse, or logistics operations, with a strong understanding of trailer movements, load securing, vehicle compliance, and safe working practices. Knowledge of tachograph regulations, driver hours legislation, and UK road transport requirements is important.
You'll thrive in this role if you're a practical, hands-on individual who enjoys variety and takes pride in getting the job done right. Strong communication skills, a proactive attitude, and a willingness to step out of the cab and support warehouse operations are key. You'll be comfortable working outdoors, handling physically demanding tasks, and contributing positively as part of a close-knit team.
