About the Role
VDeal System Limited is looking for an experienced and result-oriented Head – Electrical Engineering to lead its complete electrical engineering, design, costing, technical approval, product standardisation and value-engineering functions.
The incumbent will be the organisation’s senior technical authority for LV and MV electrical systems, switchboards, control and automation panels, busducts, power-distribution systems and associated engineered products.
The position requires a strong combination of electrical engineering expertise, commercial awareness, team leadership, manufacturing knowledge and customer-facing capability. The selected candidate will be responsible for ensuring that every product and project is engineered safely, accurately, economically and within committed timelines.
Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering Leadership
Lead the complete electrical engineering, design, costing and technical documentation department.
Establish engineering standards, approval processes, design-checking systems and documentation controls.
Convert customer specifications, tender requirements and approved technical offers into detailed engineering deliverables.
Act as the final technical approval authority for electrical drawings, calculations, BOMs and engineering documents.
Coordinate closely with sales, projects, production, quality, procurement, automation, finance and service departments.
Develop a disciplined, performance-driven and accountable engineering culture.
Electrical Design and Engineering
Lead the design and engineering of:
PCC, MCC, PMCC and intelligent MCC panels
APFC, harmonic-filter and power-quality panels
VFD, soft-starter and motor-control panels
PLC, DCS, SCADA and automation panels
Synchronisation, AMF and load-management panels
Distribution boards and feeder pillars
Relay, control, metering and protection panels
LV switchboards and MV switchgear panels
Busduct and busbar trunking systems
Substation auxiliary, AC and DC distribution systems
IoT-enabled smart electrical panels
Energy-monitoring and condition-monitoring systems
Review and approve:
Single-line diagrams
General arrangement drawings
Power and control schematics
Wiring and interconnection diagrams
Terminal plans
Cable schedules
Bill of materials
Component schedules
Control and protection philosophies
Equipment layouts
Technical data sheets
Manufacturing and as-built drawings
Standards and Compliance
Ensure designs comply with relevant customer requirements and applicable standards, including:
IEC
Relevant BIS and CEA requirements
Consultant specifications
OEM-authorised panel-building practices
The incumbent must ensure proper compliance with temperature rise, short-circuit withstand, creepage and clearance, degree of protection, form of separation, earthing continuity, component derating, electromagnetic compatibility and personnel safety requirements.
Costing and Commercial Engineering
Lead technical costing and estimation for electrical panels, systems and projects.
Review BOQs, BOMs, material costs, fabrication costs, copper and aluminium requirements, engineering hours, testing costs and installation assumptions.
Ensure alignment between technical offers, costing sheets, commercial proposals and final customer requirements.
Identify technical deviations, exclusions, risks and assumptions during tendering.
Maintain updated component-price databases and standard costing masters.
Use ICONIC software or other approved systems for electrical design, component selection and costing.
Support the sales team during technical discussions, customer presentations, clarifications and negotiations.
Improve costing accuracy and protect project contribution margins.
Value Engineering and Standardisation
Reduce product cost without compromising safety, quality, reliability, maintainability or standards.
Standardise commonly used panel designs, control circuits, busbar arrangements and component configurations.
Develop modular and repeatable electrical product platforms.
Introduce alternate technically approved components wherever commercially beneficial.
Conduct design-to-cost and design-for-manufacturing reviews.
Maintain a value-engineering register showing cost reductions and savings achieved.
Reduce unnecessary design variation and excessive component selection.
Improve manufacturability, assembly efficiency and material utilisation.
Drawing and Document Control
Establish a structured prepared-by, checked-by and approved-by workflow.
Ensure timely submission of drawings for customer and consultant approval.
Maintain complete revision control for drawings, BOMs and technical documents.
Ensure only the latest approved drawings are released to production.
Prevent manufacturing based on outdated, incomplete or unapproved documents.
Track customer comments and ensure their closure within defined timelines.
Ensure proper maintenance of manufacturing drawings, approved drawings and as-built documents.
Production, Quality and Project Support
Participate in order-handover, project-kick-off and pre-production meetings.
Provide timely technical support to production, testing, quality and site teams.
Resolve engineering-related manufacturing issues without affecting delivery schedules.
Support factory acceptance tests, inspections and customer technical reviews.
Analyse design-related NCRs, production rework, site failures and warranty complaints.
Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Support installation, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
Ensure engineering changes are properly reflected in drawings, BOMs, procurement and production orders.
Product Development and Digitalisation
Lead the development of new electrical, automation and smart-panel products.
Introduce energy monitoring, power-quality monitoring, remote diagnostics and predictive-maintenance features.
Work with automation, embedded systems, software and IoT teams.
Develop products incorporating temperature monitoring, equipment-health monitoring and cloud connectivity.
Evaluate new technologies, components, engineering tools and design software.
Drive engineering automation to reduce drawing and costing turnaround time.
Team Leadership
The Head – Electrical Engineering will lead electrical design managers, senior engineers, costing engineers, protection engineers, design engineers, draftsmen and graduate engineer trainees.
The role includes:
Defining departmental KRAs, KPIs and quarterly OKRs
Allocating work according to project priority and team capacity
Conducting weekly engineering reviews
Developing competency matrices and training plans
Improving knowledge of IEC standards, protection systems and panel engineering
Reviewing individual and team performance
Recruiting and developing engineering talent
Creating succession plans for critical roles
Qualification and Experience
B.E. or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
M.E. or M.Tech in Power Systems, Electrical Machines or Power Electronics will be preferred.
Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, panel design, power distribution, automation or EPC.
Minimum five years in an engineering leadership or functional-head position.
Strong experience in LV and MV switchboard engineering.
Experience in electrical-panel manufacturing and customer drawing approvals.
Exposure to steel, metals, mining, power, cement, paper, infrastructure or process industries will be preferred. Working with consultants, EPC contractors, utilities and major industrial customers will be an advantage.
