Role Summary
We are seeking a visionary, deeply technical, and battle-tested Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead, scale, and evolve Wintermute’s global technology organization. In this ultimate executive tech role, you will own the overarching architecture, strategy, and execution of our entire technology ecosystem—spanning ultra-low-latency algorithmic trading infrastructure, quantitative research compute frameworks, core software engineering, and decentralized finance (DeFi) integrations.
This is a premier hybrid/remote position based in the United States (with a primary executive hub in New York City), offering flexible remote structures combined with purposeful, high-impact in-person collaboration with the global executive committee.
Key Responsibilities
Global Tech Strategy & Vision: Define and execute the long-term technical roadmap, ensuring our proprietary trading systems maintain a structural competitive edge in speed, throughput, and reliability globally.
Architecture Leadership: Champion the design, optimization, and scaling of core trading components, high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, low-latency connectivity frameworks, and automated risk systems.
Engineering & SRE Excellence: Cultivate a world-class engineering culture rooted in clean code, robust CI/CD automations, strict software testing protocols, and flawless 24/7/365 production environment stability.
DeFi & Web3 Innovation: Steer the technology team through the fast-evolving decentralized ecosystem, architecting scalable node infrastructures, smart contract interactions, and cross-chain execution rails.
Organizational Leadership: Lead, inspire, and grow a globally distributed team of elite Core Engineers, Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), Infrastructure Specialists, and TechOps Professionals across multiple continents.
Security & Regulatory Alignment: Partner with the CISO and General Counsel to embed top-tier cryptographic security, zero-trust enterprise models, and compliant systemic governance across all technology infrastructures.
Qualifications & Skills
Experience: 15+ years of progressive engineering experience, with at least 5+ years in a senior C-level or executive technology role (CTO, Head of Engineering, Core Tech Director) within a tier-one high-frequency trading (HFT) firm, top-quant hedge fund, global investment bank, or hyper-scale crypto-native institution.
Technical Mastery: Expert-level understanding of low-latency systems architecture, kernel tuning, network engineering (TCP/IP, UDP, multicast), and highly optimized programming languages (C++, Rust, Go, or Python).
Crypto/Web3 Native: Deep, intuitive comprehension of decentralized network architectures, blockchain consensus mechanisms, liquid staking protocols, and MEV (Maximal Extractable Value) dynamics.
Scale & Crisis Leadership: Proven track record of managing technical operations for high-throughput, real-time transaction processing platforms under immense market volatility and stress.
Communication & Influence: Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to bridge complex mathematical/quantitative engineering concepts with broader commercial strategies and corporate governance.
Education: Graduate or Post-Graduate degree (Master's or Ph.D. preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a highly quantitative technical discipline.
