The Opportunity
The company is seeking a Head of EPC to serve as the internal subject matter expert for technical diligence, EPC strategy, engineering oversight, procurement, supply agreements, and project execution risk.
This is a hands-on role. The company needs someone who can own the function with minimal oversight, do the work directly, and build the capability as the company scales. The right person will be able to step into a lean platform, work with external engineering resources, manage owner’s engineers and EPC counterparties, and help the company move faster through acquisition diligence and execution planning.
The role is not intended to be a detailed engineering production seat. The priority is a commercially minded EPC and engineering leader who can understand the implications of technical design on project economics, development risk, contracting strategy, risk-adjusted returns, and asset monetization. The company is not looking for someone focused primarily on issuing construction drawings or self-performing engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Review opportunities, run technical diligence, identify risks, and support investment decisions before acquisition. The role will assess projects that may be pre-NTP, at NTP, or in some cases in operation.
Oversee and sanity check engineering efforts, assess technical risks, and evaluate how project design decisions affect economics, development risk, construction risk, schedule, and monetization strategy. The person will need to understand siting, construction, subsurface risk, technical design, vendor risk, and the way contracts tie together across the full project picture.
Prioritize EPC contracting, owner’s engineer oversight, supply contract negotiation, and vendor selection.
Support procurement for specific projects, including long-lead equipment, supply agreements, battery suppliers, transformer manufacturers, safe harboring strategy, domestic content considerations, and broader supply strategy.
Support the identification, vetting and selection of new energy storage technologies including: new chemistry batteries, new power electronics equipment and enabling software.
Act as the primary point of contact for external engineering resources as the platform expands across multiple markets and acquires projects at different phases.
Set up, optimize, and maintain the process, SOPs, and specialized toolsets needed to support technical diligence and EPC execution at scale.
Operate in a lean, high-performing team with minimal oversight. Comfortable functioning as the lead technical seat within the firm, utilizing external engineering resources to support technical diligence and EPC execution.
Required Experience
10 - 15+ years of experience in engineering, EPC, or technical development within the energy storage or broader renewable energy industry, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or ownership capacity.
Direct experience with utility-scale BESS projects, including technical design oversight, EPC contract negotiation, procurement, and execution risk management across multiple markets and project stages.
Proven ability to serve as the primary internal technical owner on acquisition-stage diligence, with direct responsibility for identifying EPC cost, schedule, construction, and contract risk.
Prior experience negotiating and structuring EPC contracts, supply agreements, and owner's engineer scopes, including familiarity with full EPC wraps, owner-procured equipment models, and multi-contract structures.
Demonstrated ability to manage external engineering resources, owner's engineers, EPCs, OEMs, suppliers, and manufacturers, and to evaluate counterparty risk and drive issues to resolution.
Experience supporting or leading procurement strategy for long-lead equipment, including batteries, transformers, safe harboring, and domestic content considerations across different markets including New York, New England, California, and ERCOT.
Comfort operating as a first dedicated EPC and engineering leader inside a lean platform, with the ability to build practical tools, SOPs, and review processes without requiring a large internal team.
High-ownership, low-ego operating style, with the discipline to communicate technical risk clearly to finance, development, and investment stakeholders, surface bad news early, and connect project-level decisions to platform-level outcomes.
