Product Manager, Developer Experience

ROLE OVERVIEW
As Product Manager for Developer Experience at Materialize, your mission is to make Materialize delightful to use. You own every surface a developer touches from first signup to production. The quality of that path is what drives our product-led sales motion: developers who succeed on their own become the organic leads our go-to-market team builds on.
This is a highly technical individual contributor role with a wide scope and room to grow. You will work directly with engineering, field engineering, and marketing, talk to customers yourself, and build working demos rather than writing documents about them. This is a rare opportunity to help create a new category of software infrastructure.
This role is based in our NYC office (by Astor Place), with an expectation of 3 days per week in person.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define the strategy for your product area and work across engineering, product, and go-to-market to execute on it
- Own every surface developers interact with, which today includes our agent skills https://materialize.com/docs/developer-tools/mcp-server/coding-agent-skills/, MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers https://materialize.com/docs/developer-tools/mcp-server/, orchestration tools https://materialize.com/docs/developer-tools/mz-deploy/, our console, and our documentation, and drive new features from idea to launch across each of them
- Own the onboarding funnel end to end: define the metrics that show whether it is working, partner with your engineering team to instrument them, monitor them yourself, and let them set your roadmap
- Define the success metrics for your product area, monitor them yourself, and set the goals the roadmap is held to
- Set the developer experience standards other product managers build against, such as how our error messages should read
- Partner with Field Engineering on demos and launch enablement, and with Marketing on how the developer story reaches the market
- Talk to customers directly for insight, and run demos that drive adoption
- Become the authoritative expert on your product area through market research, customer conversations, and using the product yourself
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Taste in developer experience above everything else. You have strong instincts to guide your decisions.
- 3+ years as a product manager or founder, entrepreneurial in spirit, and comfortable working alongside highly technical engineering teams
- Prior experience building developer tools, ideally more than once. You have public-facing developer documentation for a feature you have shipped.
- Direct customer-facing experience, where what you heard changed what you built
- Excellent technical communication skills, including the ability to hold an architecture discussion with a customer's engineers
- A track record of owning outcomes in an unstructured environment, where you set the priorities rather than receive them
- Comfort with AI-native workflows; you would rather build a working demo than write a document
- Nice to have: 2+ years of software engineering or site reliability engineering experience
- We will also consider candidates coming from developer relations or developer experience engineering who can demonstrate real taste, even with less formal product management experience
Location: NYC (hybrid, minimum 3 days/week at our Astor Place HQ)
Salary: $165,000 - $210,000 USD/year plus equity in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. The base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
