About the role
Description supplied by the original job listing.
About the Role:
SFR (Specialty Focused Radiology) is a teleradiology practice founded by a double‑board‑certified diagnostic radiologist. We bridge the gap in subspecialty imaging – especially pediatric radiology – by offering compassionate, expert care via teleradiology. Operating remotely across the U.S. with headquarters in Tampa, Florida, SFR combines precision with a boutique, patient-centered approach.
The PACS & IT Manager keeps that system running. You will connect new clients to our PACS (the system where studies are received, assigned, read, and reported), keep images and reports flowing for current clients, and quickly resolve issues as they arise. You will also manage our imaging technology vendors and help evaluate and roll out new systems as SFR grows.
This is a remote, part time independent contractor role with competitive hourly compensation.
Target Start Date: November 1, 2026
Responsibilities
Client Onboarding and Management
Hold IT discovery meetings with clients to determine their PACS integration needs
Plan, coordinate, document, and oversee technical onboarding for each new client.
Schedule, assign, and run onboarding meetings with the client, SFR's team, and the client's vendors.
Set up new clients in the PACS and coordinate HL7 integration so orders and reports flow between the client's EMR or RIS and our PACS.
Set up and test DICOM transmission from the client's modalities or PACS
Coordinate VPN connections between our PACS vendor and the client's vendor when needed
Install and configure gateways at client sites and radiologist workstations
Test the full workflow before go-live: images arrive, the study is assigned, the report posts back to the client's system
Train client staff and radiologists as needed
Understand each client's workflow and goals, and balance them with SFR's and partner with PACS vendor and SFR team to remove technology roadblocks that slow a client down before and after go-live.
Guide clients with IT / PACS support issues as requested
Daily PACS support
Serve as the first contact for PACS problems from radiologists, SFR's operations team, and clients
Maintain worklists, auto-assignment rules (by age, subspecialty, and site credentialing), stat notifications, and automatic retrieval of prior studies
Troubleshoot HL7 and DICOM problems: missing studies, reports that don't post to a client's EMR, missing data fields, image quality issues, and duplicate exams
Report defects to the PACS vendor, follow up until they're fixed, and provide status updates at the weekly team meeting.
Support monthly reconciliation so each report is credited to the radiologist who read it and duplicate exams are caught before billing.
Train new SFR staff on the PACS and on how each client sends studies
Vendors and technology
Act as the liaison for SFR, clients, and vendors, including PACS, AI, dictation, and reporting vendors, and client IT teams
Help evaluate new technology platforms, and give technical input on vendor contracts and client proposals.
Coordinate vendor upgrades and platform changes with as little disruption to clients as possible, and document how each client connection works.
Required Skills
PACS and RIS administration, ideally in teleradiology or across multiple imaging sites
Knowledge of imaging modalities and integrations (e.g., RIS, EMR/EHR, HL7, DICOM) and ability to coordinate with vendors and client IT teams
Project management skills with implementing new clients (Onboarding new sites or clients from start to go-live)
Local DICOM Gateway/Router installation and networking setup (wide area networking, VPNs, basic local networking)
Vendor coordination, escalation, and incident resolution for clinical IT environments
Radiology workflows in outpatient or diagnostic imaging centers: worklists, assignment rules, priors, stat studies, and report delivery
Customer empathy and timeliness when troubleshooting under time pressure, including urgent issues outside normal hours when a client connection goes down
User access management, healthcare data security, privacy, and HIPAA standards
Clear writing and documentation and efffective communication skills for collaborating and personable training with end users, clients, radiologists, technologists, and non-technical stakeholders
Experience with AI workflow tools and dictation systems (e.g., PowerScribe, RadPair, AZMed, etc.)
Relevant technical or healthcare IT education (e.g., degree, certifications in health IT, networking, or systems administration) is preferred
Work arrangement
Yes
