Calimingo Pools builds custom luxury pools and outdoor living spaces throughout Southern California.
We're hiring a Director of Construction to run all field operations. You'll report directly to the CEO and lead our project managers and field operations admins across both product lines: Custom, our luxury design-build projects, and Express, our streamlined, higher-volume product.
The Role Today
Lead a team of Project managers and field operations admins
Oversee over 30 active projects
Full authority to hire and fire field staff
Accountable for margin, schedule, quality, and client experience on every project
The Role Next Year
As we grow, you'll add project managers, admins, and projects, and open new regional offices. In each new market, you'll hire and train PMs, admins, and subcontractors. In some cases, you'll co-manage the region yourself until the new team is ready to run it independently, then do the same in the next market, including in other states.
Your First 90 Days
Learn our systems and processes, get fully up to speed on every active project, and build working relationships with our project managers, admins, and subcontractors. By the end of 90 days, you should know every project in detail and have field operations running smoothly.
What You'll Own
Team leadership: Hire, train, and develop project managers and admins. Build a bench of people ready to lead new regions.
Operations: Enforce KPIs, daily field reporting, and accountability across all projects.
Subcontractors and vendors: Find, vet, onboard, and train subcontractors before they start work, in current and new markets.
Pre-construction review: Approve plans, contracts, and budgets before projects go to the field.
Financial performance: Protect margin on every project, enforce contract terms, and control scope creep and change orders.
Client relationships: Personally handle escalations and maintain a five-star client experience.
Permitting oversight: Our permitting department runs separately. Your role is to make sure no major issue goes unaddressed and no recurring problem keeps happening.
Process improvement: Find what's slowing the team down, implement the fix, and make sure it sticks.
Our Systems
Calimingo runs on an established ERP platform with extensive automations and integrations. At its center is the Calimingo Hub, which answers questions about how to do any job in the company, shows KPIs for every department, and holds the timeline and critical-path view for every project. You'll be leading a team on systems that already work, not building them from scratch.
Requirements
5+ years in high end residential construction or specialty trade operations (pool, landscape, outdoor living, or similar)
5+ years managing project managers or field supervisors
Direct P&L responsibility, not just reporting on the numbers
Experience finding, vetting, onboarding, and managing subcontractors
Proven track record of hiring and developing operations staff
Based in or relocating to Southern California
Willing to travel throughout our service area and to new markets, including extended periods during regional launches
Preferred
Pool, landscape, or outdoor living construction background
High-end residential construction experience
Experience opening a new regional office or market
Established subcontractor network in key trades
Pool experience is a plus, not a requirement. We can teach the product. We can't teach construction leadership.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary: $200,000
Quarterly bonuses for hitting margin targets, finishing on time, and earning five-star client reviews. Bonuses compound, so each one grows as you hit more of them together.
Total compensation scales with revenue: at $10M, $200K–$537K; at $20M, $325K–$975K. The full structure is explained during the interview.
