Director of Product Engineering

This client is an education technology company that provides training for psychedelic-assisted therapy, prepares clinicians to deliver care within regulated clinical trial environments along with the emerging legal frameworks for psychedelic medicine at scale. Summary: The Director of Product Engineering will be responsible for owning the execution and co-development of product roadmaps, with direct oversight of the engineering team. This consultant will be the primary steward of digital products, enterprise-ready platforms, and will define what comes next.
Responsibilities:
Own the digital product roadmap, co-developed with senior leadership, and drive execution through the engineering team.
Oversee the engineering team and establish robust digital product development and improvement processes.
Maintain and extend the clinical trials validation status of Sync and Sessions, ensuring ongoing FDA, EMA, and ICH GCP compliance.
Lead patient data integration, including HIPAA-compliant architecture, consent and de-identification frameworks, BAA requirements, and IRB coordination.
Oversee and advance AI-assisted product features, including prompt engineering and AI-powered trainee feedback, with rigorous validation and continuous improvement.
Champion the use of AI in the product build process to accelerate development, improve quality, and increase team effectiveness.
Evaluate regulatory and data privacy implications of product decisions, including HIPAA safeguards and 42 CFR Part 2, while partnering with Compliance on validation, audit trails, and change control.
Bring business-level judgment to product decisions, considering cost structures, platform operating costs, product positioning, and business model fit.
Qualifications:
8+ years digital product development, with at least 3 years at Director level or equivalent seniority.
Demonstrated experience building and scalingB2B SaaS platforms, integrations, and automations for regulated markets — healthcare, clinical trials, pharmaceutical, or comparable industries.
Working knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11, EMA Guidance, HIPAA technical safeguards, and software validation processes (IQ/OQ/PQ).
Proven experience building and overseeing AI-powered products — including products that incorporate machine learning, prompt engineering, or AI-assisted user experiences.
