About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

Director of Accounting
Atsali Search is partnering with a fast-growing, private equity-backed insurance company to hire a Director of Accounting. This position will report to the Controller and play an important role in strengthening and scaling the company’s accounting and financial reporting capabilities. Insurance industry experience is strongly preferred.
The Director of Accounting will support the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while helping ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting across a growing portfolio of operating companies. The position will also assist with complex accounting matters, audit support, process improvements, and the accounting integration and cleanup of acquired businesses.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and perform the work—not simply direct it. The ideal candidate is technically strong, detail-oriented, comfortable working through evolving accounting environments, and able to manage multiple priorities with urgency and sound judgment.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Controller with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, roll forwards, and supporting schedules.

Partner with external auditors and assist with the annual audit process.
Support the accounting setup and integration of newly acquired companies, including opening balances, reconciliations, and cleanup activities.
Help navigate accounting matters related to complex legal entities and private equity ownership structures.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, procedures, systems, and internal controls.
Maintain appropriate accounting documentation and support compliance with established policies and reporting requirements.
Partner with senior finance leaders and operating-company accounting teams on special projects and other initiatives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
At least seven years of progressive accounting experience.
Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
Experience supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, roll forwards, and intercompany reconciliations.
Experience with general ledger and accounts payable functions.
Experience working with external auditors and supporting annual audits.
Proficiency with NetSuite or a comparable ERP or accounting system.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with multiple entities and competing deadlines.
Strong communication skills and the ability to navigate complex working relationships.
CPA license preferred.
Property and casualty insurance, MGA, carrier, or related insurance accounting experience is strongly preferred.
Experience with acquisitions, accounting integrations, cleanup projects, or process improvements is a plus.
Experience with insurance policy management systems is a plus.
Highlights
High-visibility role within a rapidly growing, private equity-backed business.
Meaningful exposure to senior finance leadership and operating-company teams.
