Volunteer: Grant Prospect Research and Identification for Adaptive Veterans Hockey Program

This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections.
We need to identify grantor organizations that fund 501(c)(3) adaptive sports programs serving disabled U.S. military veterans nationwide. Specifically, we must find grantors that provide non‑matching funds to support operations and program requirements for our standing and sled teams, and that serve disabled veterans, Purple Heart holders, and active, retired, or separated service members.
We are looking for a volunteer with Grant Writing and prospect-research expertise to compile and prioritize grant prospects for USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program. The volunteer will: - Compile an initial inclusive list of grantors that match our criteria and provide, for each grantor, its full identification and website. - For each grantor, document the types of grants they award (operations and/or project/programmatic) and confirm whether they require matching funds. - For each grantor, identify the application timing cycle (dates application opens and closes) and the typical timing between application submission and award decision. - For each grantor, research and summarize any history of prior or similar grants awarded and other relevant information that would support an application. - Deliver a final, prioritized list ordered by application timing cycle with open/close dates, award-timing notes, and a qualitative probability of success for a USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program application. - Coordinate with our Board of Advisors member Mark Adams, who will provide background on prior grants and support validation of findings.
USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program Mission: The Program’s mission is to organize and administer an ice hockey program that provides a recreational, therapeutic experience and education. The program educates, trains, motivates, and encourages the formation of “USA Warrior Hockey Programs” locally and nationally while encouraging individuals who have physical disabilities incurred during service to the United States to participate in the sport of ice hockey in an environment adapted to the level of their ability. USA Warriors Ice Hockey is committed to improving the physical, emotional, and social well-being of wounded, injured, and disabled U.S. military veterans through the sport of hockey.
