Supply Technician

GENERAL SUMMARY:
As a Supply Technician, you'll play a vital role in our healthcare operations by managing the seamless flow of supplies and materials throughout our facility. Under general supervision, you'll prepare items for shipment, coordinate with freight vendors, and ensure all materials meet rigorous security and shipping standards. You'll be instrumental in supporting patient care areas with efficient, accurate delivery of supplies while identifying opportunities to streamline processes and reduce waste.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shipping & Logistics Coordination
Partner with multiple freight carriers (Federal Express, UPS, Airborne, Emery, and others) to coordinate efficient pick-ups and shipments for credit, repair, exchange, and evaluation items.
Inspect all parcels to verify proper preparation according to security protocols, hazardous materials handling standards, and shipping requirements—ensuring correct addressing and labeling every time.
Maintain detailed packing slips with signed confirmations to ensure accountability and traceability of all shipments.
Supply Management & Inventory Control
Deliver supplies to patient care areas with precision, efficiency, and punctuality, maintaining sterility and infection control standards throughout the process.
Maintain optimal supply levels across all designated patient care areas by monitoring usage patterns and reporting fluctuations to the coordinator for evaluation with nursing managers.
Utilize hand-held computer systems to download, upload, and execute orders through the current inventory system, ensuring adequate stock levels and managing special orders for non-prime vendor supplies.
Receive, check, and distribute incoming supplies in accordance with established policies and procedures, verifying item numbers, descriptions, quantities, and delivery locations.
Organize and maintain supply carts in a neat, orderly fashion using appropriate cleaning detergents and agents while adhering to safety protocols and PPE requirements.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Conduct periodic inspections of inventory stock to identify expired items and non-sterile conditions, and verify equipment safety inspections are current.
Control patient charges by collecting and batching patient charge cards daily, ensuring accurate billing and financial accountability.
Maintain working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local regulations, Corporate Compliance Program requirements, and Code of Ethics to ensure all activities reflect honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
Problem-Solving & Process Improvement
Respond promptly to department calls and resolve routine supply-related issues, escalating unusual or complex problems to your supervisor for resolution.
Deliver STAT and non-cart items ordered through patient charging systems with urgency and accuracy.
Make proactive recommendations to improve processes, minimize waste, and enhance inventory control efficiency.
Additional Duties
Sort and route mail to proper slots and manage outgoing mail distribution.
Perform general maintenance on first and second floor copiers, including toner refills, staple replenishment, and paper ordering.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent with some computer knowledge, typing ability and good communications skills.
Approximately six (6) months previous experience in a warehouse or stock department or requisitioning, ordering, or receiving supplies environment in order to gain a working knowledge of the operations and procedures.
