Position Summary
We are seeking a highly strategic and operationally focused Senior Director of Finance to serve as the senior finance partner to executive Product and Technology leadership. This is a contract position paid on an hourly W2 basis.
This individual will provide end-to-end financial leadership across a portfolio of software, cloud, digital platform, and technology-enabled services. The role will have significant responsibility for financial strategy, planning, forecasting, P&L management, product economics, investment analysis, and technology spending.
The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of senior-level finance leadership and experience supporting SaaS, software, cloud, product, engineering, or technology organizations. This person should understand subscription and consumption-based business models and be comfortable advising executives on product investments, resource allocation, profitability, capital deployment, and long-term financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Finance Partnership
Serve as a strategic finance partner to senior Product, Technology, and Engineering leadership.
Translate business and product strategies into actionable financial plans.
Provide financial guidance around growth initiatives, product investments, organizational planning, and resource allocation.
Lead executive-level discussions related to profitability, investment returns, financial performance, and long-term value creation.
Develop financial analyses and recommendations to support complex business decisions.
Financial & P&L Management
Provide financial leadership across a complex technology and digital services portfolio.
Manage and analyze revenue, gross margin, COGS, OPEX, headcount, CAPEX, capitalized labor, software development investments, EBITDA, and cash flow.
Monitor business performance against financial targets and identify risks and opportunities.
Ensure investment and spending decisions align with long-term financial and operational objectives.
Partner with business leaders to improve financial visibility, accountability, and performance.
SaaS & Product Finance
Serve as a finance subject matter expert for SaaS, software, cloud, platform, and subscription-based business models.
Develop and monitor key financial and operating metrics, including ARR, MRR, consumption revenue, gross retention, net revenue retention, CAC, LTV, and product unit economics.
Evaluate product profitability and financial performance.
Partner with Product leadership on pricing, packaging, and monetization strategies.
Develop financial models and business cases for new products, platform investments, strategic partnerships, and other growth initiatives.
Analyze the financial impact of product roadmap and technology investment decisions.
Strategic Planning & Forecasting
Lead annual budgeting, long-range planning, and recurring forecasting activities.
Develop financial scenarios based on growth targets, market opportunities, operating requirements, and product roadmaps.
Partner with Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Operations teams to develop measurable and executable financial plans.
Evaluate competing investment opportunities and provide recommendations regarding resource prioritization.
Identify financial risks, opportunities, and performance trends.
Product & Technology Finance Leadership
Provide financial leadership across Product Management, Engineering, Technology, and strategic product investments.
Develop scalable financial processes and frameworks that improve strategic decision support.
Drive stronger capabilities around SaaS finance, product economics, forecasting, and investment analytics.
Partner with senior leaders to establish financial accountability across technology and product organizations.
Provide leadership and guidance to finance professionals supporting the organization.
Investment & Capital Management
Evaluate technology and product investment opportunities and associated business cases.
Oversee financial governance associated with software development investments and technology capital expenditures.
Support management of operating and capital expenditures.
Monitor capitalized software development spending and related financial performance.
Develop frameworks for evaluating investment performance and expected returns.
Provide financial recommendations regarding continued investment, reprioritization, or resource allocation.
Cross-Functional Partnership
Partner closely with Product, Technology, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Corporate Strategy, Accounting, and Corporate Finance organizations.
Build strong relationships across technical, operational, and financial teams.
Influence business decisions through financial analysis, business insight, and effective communication.
Present complex financial concepts and recommendations clearly to executive and non-financial audiences.
Qualifications
10+ years of progressive experience within Finance, FP&A, Business Finance, Corporate Finance, Strategic Finance, or Product Finance.
Senior-level experience supporting SaaS, software, cloud, digital platform, or other technology-driven businesses.
Demonstrated experience managing or providing financial leadership for a complex P&L.
Strong understanding of SaaS and subscription-based business models.
Experience with recurring and consumption-based revenue models.
Knowledge of ARR, MRR, retention, NRR, CAC, LTV, and product unit economics.
Experience supporting Product, Engineering, Technology, or software development organizations.
Strong understanding of software development investments, capitalized software, technology spending, and cost-of-delivery models.
Experience leading annual planning, long-range planning, budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate business cases and strategic investment opportunities.
Experience working directly with senior executives and presenting complex financial information to leadership.
Strong communication, relationship-building, analytical, and executive presentation skills.
Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous senior finance leadership experience within a high-growth SaaS, enterprise software, cloud, or digital platform organization.
Experience serving as the primary finance partner to Product, Technology, or Engineering executives.
M&A, integration, or large-scale transformation experience.
Experience supporting cloud networking, digital infrastructure, AI infrastructure, or other technology-intensive businesses.
Experience building or developing Product Finance or Technology Finance capabilities.
