Tax Preparer II & Planning Associate : Golden Spike Tax & Advisory in Ogden, UT
Remote · Part- or Full-time : 25 to 40 hours per week : Year-round · $25.00 - $48.00 per hour
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Tax Preparer/Specialist to join our team in a part-time or full-time capacity. Golden Spike Tax & Advisory is a boutique CPA firm specializing in proactive tax strategy for service-based business owners in Utah and across the US. We go beyond basic compliance and deliver annual tax plans and year-round guidance and implementation support, so our clients can make informed decisions and build long-term financial stability.
Responsibilities
Prepare individual (Form 1040, Schedule C) and business returns (Forms 1120, 1120-S, 1065)
Review client documentation and bookkeeping records for accuracy and completeness
Conduct comprehensive tax planning and consulting for clients, including estate planning, mergers & acquisitions, and regulatory compliance accounting.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws by staying current on updates in tax law and regulations
Make sure each client's approved tax strategies are properly applied and documented on the return and in records
Maintain organized workpapers and supporting documentation according to firm standards
Communicate with clients professionally and respectfully to request information and resolve questions
Work with the firm's founder on return review and workflow management throughout the year
Qualifications
Enrolled Agent (EA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or current AFSP Record of Completion (required) or any of these close to completion
Active PTIN (required)
2+ years of experience preparing individual and small business tax returns (required)
Working knowledge of S corporation, Partnership and self-employment tax matters
Proficiency with Drake Tax, Quickbooks, Excel, and Adobe (or similar programs)
Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and excellent organizational skills
A client-focused communication style marked by discretion, clarity, and professionalism
Proven experience in tax preparation, public accounting, or corporate accounting with a strong understanding of tax law and tax reporting processes.
Ability to handle multiple tasks including tax return preparation for individuals and corporations while maintaining accuracy under tight deadlines.
