About the role

Description supplied by the original job listing.

About the CLIENT:
Our CLIENT is an organization dedicated to supporting and inspiring innovators across Africa.
Through programs, partnerships, events, ecosystem engagement, and community initiatives, they help founders, builders, creatives, and technology enthusiasts connect, learn, grow, and access opportunities that enable them to create meaningful impact. In addition to ecosystem and community initiatives, the CLIENT also designs and delivers innovation projects for corporates, development organizations, government agencies, and ecosystem partners across Africa.
They are seeking a Finance & Administration Officer with a strong foundation in finance and accounting to manage the organisation’s day-to-day financial operations while providing support across key administrative functions.
The ideal candidate should be highly organised, detail-oriented, comfortable working with financial records and reporting, and able to independently manage routine finance processes. While finance will be the primary focus of the role, the successful candidate will also support administrative and operational activities required for the smooth running of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Finance & Accounting
● Manage day-to-day financial operations, including recording income, expenses, payments, reimbursements, and other transactions, ensuring financial records are accurate and up to date.
● Manage accounts payable and receivable, including preparing invoices, processing payments, tracking outstanding balances, and following up on receivables.
● Perform regular bank reconciliations and maintain accurate ledgers, financial schedules, and supporting documentation for all transactions.
● Prepare monthly management accounts, cash flow reports, budget reports, and other financial reports required to support management decision-making.
● Manage routine tax and statutory compliance, including the computation, filing and remittance of VAT and WHT, maintenance of tax schedules and payment evidence, and tracking of applicable filing deadlines and obligations.
● Manage payroll preparation and maintain accurate payroll, statutory deduction, and employee payment records.
● Coordinate statutory audits and other tax processes, prepare required financial schedules and documentation, and work with external auditors and tax advisers on more complex compliance matters.
Project Finance & Financial Controls
● Develop and manage project budgets, financial schedules, funds requests, invoices, and other financial documentation required for projects and client engagements.
● Track project expenditure against approved budgets, monitor utilisation and variances, and flag potential budget overruns or financial issues.
● Maintain accurate and well-organised financial records for each project, ensuring all transactions are properly allocated, documented, and traceable.
● Review payment and expense requests to ensure appropriate approvals, supporting documentation, and budget allocation are in place before processing.
● Prepare project financial reports for management, clients, partners, and funders, while maintaining effective financial controls that ensure accuracy, accountability, and compliance.
● Support the improvement and implementation of internal financial controls, processes, and documentation.
Administration & Operations
● Maintain organised company records, contracts, regulatory documents, correspondence, and other important administrative documentation.
● Manage vendor administration and procurement processes, including vendor records, documentation, invoices, payments, and service-related follow-ups.
● Track key organisational obligations, including subscriptions, renewals, payments, regulatory requirements, and administrative deadlines, ensuring timely completion.
● Prepare and manage administrative documents, letters, forms, schedules, and internal records, while coordinating routine activities required for the smooth running of the organisation.
● Support the Operations Manager and wider team in improving internal processes, record-keeping, documentation, and overall operational efficiency.
Requirements
● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
● 3+ years of relevant experience, with finance, accounting, or financial operations forming the core of your previous responsibilities.
● Strong understanding of bookkeeping, accounting principles, financial reporting, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable, and financial documentation.
● Practical experience preparing or supporting management accounts, budgets, cash flow reports, and financial reconciliations.
● Good understanding of Nigerian tax and statutory requirements, including VAT and WHT.
● Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets and experience using accounting or financial management software.
● Experience supporting audits, tax filings, or project financial reporting is a strong advantage.
● Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, well-organised records.
● Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
● Good written and verbal communication skills.
● Ability to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities, and proactively follow through on outstanding tasks.
What We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in someone who is a finance professional first.
You should be comfortable taking ownership of the company’s day-to-day financial records, knowing what needs to be reconciled or followed up, keeping documentation audit-ready, and providing management with a clear picture of the company’s finances. At the same time, because the CLIENT operates as a lean team, you should be willing to support administrative and operational responsibilities when required.
