The CSC is a first-of-its-kind service in South Australia — a 16-bed, 24/7 voluntary short-stay alternative to Emergency Departments for people experiencing mental health crisis and/or suicidal distress. Guided by a Peer First, Peer Last Philosophy of Care, this is a rare opportunity to help shape culture and practice from the very beginning.

Contract: Part-time and full-time available (0.5FTE -1 FTE)
Hours: The Crisis Stabilisation Centre is a 24/7 service, all Peer Staff will be rostered on a rotational roster.
Shift preferences will be considered, by not guaranteed to ensure fairness to all employees.

About the Roles:
The Peer Practitioner is a key lived experience role within the Crisis Stabilisation Centre (CSC), contributing to the broader continuum of care within the Integrated Crisis Support Hub.
The Peer Practitioner utilises their own lived experience of mental health challenges, recovery to provide peer support and genuine connection to guests and their families, carers, and supporters of choice. Drawing from a strengths based, recovery-oriented approach, the Peer Practitioner acts as a role model for recovery for people experiencing mental health challenges, distress, and crisis.
The Peer Practitioner works collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team, ensuring that lived experience perspectives are present and valued in day-to-day service delivery. They champion the voices, perspectives, and experiences of guests within the service. This role operates under direction and is a valued part of the overall service delivery and integration of peer practice within the multidisciplinary team.
This role is supported by the Peer Lead, Senior Peer Practitioners, Nursing Lead, Allied Health Lead, and broader CSC leadership.
Experience Requirements:
Personal lived experience of mental health challenges and recovery, and the ability to draw on this experience purposefully and safely in a professional context.
Demonstrated experience working within a fast-paced environment.
Previous experience in a Peer Practitioner, lived experience, or peer support worker role.
Previous experience in an immediate access or crisis care setting is desirable.
Experience using databases, electronic case management systems, and computer systems.
Qualification and Other Requirements:
Certificate IV in Peer Work or equivalent qualification with demonstrated experience in a lived experience, Peer Practitioner, or Peer Support Worker role, or willingness to obtain.
Certificate IV in Mental Health or a related field is desirable.
