Protection Officer Sudan Tawilah

Roles and responsibilities:
The Protection Officer oversees day-to-day implementation of protection activities in Tawilah, leading protection monitoring, case identification, and referral processes through field visits, assessments, and community sensitization. The role ensures timely, accountable delivery of protection services in line with NRC policies and work plans, while supervising Technical Assistants and coordinating with partners, local authorities, and other NRC teams. It also involves reporting, M&E support, and capacity-building for the field protection team.
Generic Responsibilities:
1.Ensure adherence with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
2.Implement protection from violence project portfolio according to plan of action
3.Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
4.Ensure proper filing of documents
5.Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, while exploring and assessing new and better ways to assist.
6.Monitor the process of beneficiary selection and make sure of accountability and transparency.
7.Promote and share ideas for technical improvement
8.Suggest capacity building measures for Protection field team to the coordinator
Specific responsibilities:
Lead the implementation of the different components of protection monitoring, case identification and referrals according to tools, SOPs, and annual work plan in Tawilah.
Ensure that projects targets beneficiaries most in need of protection.
Lead in regular visit to settlements to conduct focus group discussion, observations, quantitative survey to feed into protection monitoring.
During field visits: Identify protection cases during the field visit, refer cases in need and follow up on the referrals.
Ensure that procurement, development and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures.
These responsibilities shall be the same for all positions with the same title. The responsibilities shall be short and essential. Details belong in the Work and Development plan.

Generic professional competencies
2-3 years’ experience from working as a protection staff with knowledge in case management and case identification, program in a humanitarian/recovery context.
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts.
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
knowledge of English language, Arabic and other local languages
Political and cultural awareness, as well as good understanding of the displacement context
University degree or technical school degree (social sciences preferred, e.g. education, political or Social science, international relations, law, journalism, gender studies, human rights etc.).
Context related skills, knowledge and experience
Preferable experience in a project implementation position in an NGO;
Excellent verbal communication skills;
Excellent team-working skills;
Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to cope with stressful situations;
Good written communication skills;
Good computer literacy, including use of smartphones and MS Office (Word and Excel);
Good verbal and written English skills are of benefit;
Knowledge of multi-sectoral humanitarian response, including Protection, WASH, Shelter, and emergency distribution is of benefit;
Experience in Protection programming is of benefit
