Backend Engineer

we’re hiring a backend engineer for an early-stage ai startup in bengaluru.
the team is building the infrastructure behind a highly personalised ai product with long-term memory, real-time audio processing, speaker identification, transcription, retrieval, and context-aware responses. the backend systems will operate at serious scale, with millions of requests per second and terabytes of data.
this is a high-ownership role for someone who enjoys solving difficult technical problems, owning systems end to end, and working closely with a small, fast-moving team.

what you’ll work on:
design and build high-performance backend services and apis
work with microservices, message queues, distributed systems, and production infrastructure
optimise database queries, caching, reliability, and system performance
own features from architecture and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and iteration
build systems that handle large-scale data and high request volumes
write clean, testable, production-ready code
lead and support a team of young engineers
use ai coding tools effectively and help improve engineering workflows
what we’re looking for:
2–5 years of backend engineering experience
strong proficiency in python, node.js, go, or java
experience with postgresql or mysql and systems such as redis, mongodb, or dynamodb
hands-on experience with aws, gcp, or azure
familiarity with docker, kubernetes, git, and shell scripting
strong debugging and problem-solving skills
curiosity about systems, infrastructure, and how things work under the hood
ability to take ownership and work through ambiguous problems
experience using ai tools for software development
bonus points for:
experience with ai/ml infrastructure or llm-based systems
open-source contributions
strong personal projects or proof of work on github
experience building and operating systems at scale
