Staff Platform Engineer

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space.
This role will shape the technical direction of platform capabilities that support reliable, scalable cloud operations. You will partner closely with engineering teams to design self-service tooling, improve core infrastructure, and establish standards that make service delivery more efficient. The position will also play a key role in guiding architecture decisions, strengthening production reliability, and advancing long-term infrastructure strategy.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $168,000 – $240,000 annually
Responsibilities
Set the technical direction for platform capabilities and develop long-term cloud and reliability plans.
Lead architecture discussions and guide technical decisions throughout the software development lifecycle.
Design and maintain platform services and automation tools across multiple programming languages.
Build self-service systems to enable engineers to deploy and manage services independently.
Create and enhance standard workflows for service development and delivery, including libraries and templates.
Improve core infrastructure components that support cloud operations and application needs.
Define and use SLOs and error budgets to manage production reliability and operational decision-making.
Qualifications
8+ years in software or infrastructure engineering, with significant experience in production systems.
Strong proficiency in languages like Go, Python, or TypeScript, with a focus on maintainable services and tools.
Operational experience with distributed systems, including performance improvement and high availability design.
Expertise in cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
Experience with container technologies and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
Proven track record of establishing technical direction and mentoring engineering teams.
Hands-on knowledge of observability tools and practices.
