Senior Design Engineer, Design Systems

For our client, we are seeking a Senior Design Engineer, Design Systems to join the team of a leader in the Hospitals & Medical Centers space.
This role will shape the foundation of a modern design system that supports both mobile and web experiences across the organization. You will partner closely with design and engineering teams to build reusable components, keep design tooling aligned with production code, and raise the bar for accessibility, quality, and consistency. The position also includes opportunities to apply AI-enabled workflows to improve prototyping, documentation, and system adoption.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $120,000 – $145,000 annually
Responsibilities
Establish the architecture and foundations of the design system
Build reusable, production-ready components with built-in accessibility
Maintain synchronization between design tools and production code
Set quality standards for the design system and ensure compliance
Create AI tools for efficient prototyping and system use
Document guidelines and component rules for proper usage
Collaborate with designers and engineers on complex workflows
Qualifications
6+ years building production frontend design systems for mobile and web
Strong frontend engineering skills with modern web technologies
High UI and UX craft with a keen product taste
Deep experience with component libraries and Figma workflows
Strong accessibility knowledge for mobile and web
Experience aligning design systems and production code
Real-world experience using AI to expedite design processes
Effective communication for both technical and non-technical audiences
