Staff Software Engineer

For our client, we are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Enterprise Technology space.
This role will shape the technical direction for backend engineering, with a focus on scalable, cloud-native services that support high-volume enterprise workflows. You will partner with cross-functional teams to improve architecture, reliability, and performance while helping guide engineering standards across the team. The position also includes integrating AI-driven capabilities into production systems to enhance retrieval and processing outcomes.
Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available
Compensation: $170,000 – $190,000 annually
Responsibilities
Lead technical direction and establish engineering standards for the backend team.
Architect and develop production-ready cloud-native services and APIs.
Design scalable event-driven systems and data pipelines that manage load and failures.
Integrate AI-driven services to enhance data retrieval and processing capabilities.
Ensure systems are designed with security and compliance in mind.
Drive improvements in performance, reliability, and engineering quality.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor engineers in best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years of software engineering experience delivering scalable production systems.
3+ years of technical leadership experience influencing engineering direction.
Deep expertise in designing distributed, cloud-native backend systems, preferably on AWS.
Strong knowledge of event-driven architectures and asynchronous processing.
Proven ability to create systems that are high-performance and reliable.
Familiarity with modern AI applications in production software.
