Role Description The Maya / Unreal Engine Technical Director is a full-time, on-site role based at philm CGI’s studio in Pune City. This role oversees the technical pipeline for 3D animation and real-time rendering, ensuring seamless integration between Maya, Unreal Engine, and related tools. The Technical Director collaborates closely with artists, supervisors, and production teams to design, implement, and maintain efficient workflows, tools, and scripts that support high-quality output. Day-to-day responsibilities include troubleshooting technical issues, optimizing assets and scenes for performance, guiding the adoption of new technologies, and setting best practices for the team. The role also involves coordinating with project management to meet production timelines, mentoring technical artists, and contributing to R&D initiatives that advance the studio’s capabilities.
Qualifications
Team Leadership and Team Management skills to guide technical artists, collaborate across departments, and foster a supportive, inclusive studio culture.
Research and Development (R&D) experience to evaluate new tools, techniques, and workflows in Maya and Unreal Engine, and drive continuous technical innovation.
Software Development skills, including scripting or programming (e.g., Python, C++, MEL, Blueprints), to build, maintain, and improve pipeline tools and integrations.
Project Management abilities to plan technical tasks, estimate effort, manage priorities, and ensure delivery within production schedules.
Strong expertise in Maya and Unreal Engine, including asset workflows, rigging or animation support, scene optimization, and real-time rendering pipelines.
Solid understanding of CG production processes for animation and VFX (modeling, texturing, lighting, FX, compositing) and how they interact in a studio pipeline.
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, document solutions, and establish clear technical standards and best practices.
Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including artists, supervisors, and production staff.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Animation, VFX, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Prior experience as a Technical field is must
