POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Interior Designer | Construction Administration leads the interior design scope during the construction phase of commercial projects, ensuring design intent, quality, and technical requirements are executed accurately in the field. This role serves as the primary interior design liaison between the design team, contractors, consultants, and clients throughout construction, proactively identifying and resolving issues to support successful project delivery. Working closely with the Design Development team, consultants and contractors, the Senior Interior Designer | Construction Administration provides technical expertise, field leadership, and design decision-making to address constructability challenges, substitutions, RFIs, and unforeseen site conditions. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy and accountability and plays a critical role in upholding design excellence and technical rigor across the firm’s portfolio.
The Senior Interior Designer | Construction Administration will work independently and collaborate closely with multiple design team members to ensure the successful completion of the design development phase. Success in this role is defined by clear communication, decisive problem-solving, proactive coordination, and the ability to protect and realize design intent within real-world construction constraints.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
GENERAL
Collaborate effectively with team members to support cohesive project execution
Comply with company templates, design process and presentation standards
Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Communicate and present to clients
Create, build and maintain professional relationships with current and perspective clients
CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION
Review and respond to RFIs related to interior design scope in coordination with project leadership
Review, mark up, and approve submittals, shop drawings, and samples for interior finishes, millwork, specialties
Conduct regular site visits to observe construction progress, verify compliance with design intent, and identify issues early
Document site observations and field conditions through reports, photos, and follow-up communications
Review contractor substitutions and value-engineering proposals for alignment with design intent, performance, and quality standards
Coordinate with architectural, MEP, lighting, low voltage, fire protection, and specialty consultants to resolve field conflicts
Support resolution of constructability challenges, unforeseen conditions, and schedule impacts
Participate in punch walks and oversee interior scope closeout activities
ADDITIONAL SUPPORT
Support construction documentation team, as needed
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or related field required
A minimum of 5-10+ years of commercial design firm experience required or 3+ years with Level Five Designs
AutoCAD required
NCIDQ certification preferred
Deep knowledge of commercial construction methods, interior detailing, and building systems
Strong understanding of building codes, ADA, life safety, and regulatory requirements affecting interior construction
Bluebeam, Google Workspace, Procore, Adobe Creative Suite and Sketchup experience preferred
Multi-family and/or hospitality experience preferred
High attention to detail and accuracy

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand, walk, or be on feet for extended periods during site visits
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50–60 lbs as needed
Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform light physical tasks required during site visits
Comfortable working in active jobsite environments, which may include dust, noise, varying temperatures, use of on-site portable restrooms, or uneven surfaces
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Annual Required Travel: ~70-90 days to go to project site visits both instate and out of state (currently Southeast/Mid Atlantic and Southwest), plus 7-15 days for company events and conferences, as needed
Must live within an hour’s drive of a major airport
Must be comfortable traveling by air for projects located more than a 4 hour drive
Must have valid driver's license and maintain appropriate auto insurance coverage in accordance with company guidelines
Must have access to reliable personal vehicle available for travel to project sites and company-related events
Ability to transport, by vehicle, samples, or project materials, as needed
