Role Description
The Senior Sensory Scientist is a full-time role responsible for leading and executing sensory and consumer research projects from design through delivery. This position manages study planning, protocol development, and implementation of advanced sensory methods and data analysis, ensuring high-quality, actionable results for clients. The Senior Sensory Scientist collaborates with cross-functional teams and clients to understand business objectives, translate them into sound research designs, and present clear findings and recommendations. Day-to-day tasks include overseeing panel training and performance, developing and refining sensory programs, supervising data collection and statistical analysis, and preparing technical reports and client presentations. This role also contributes to internal best practices, mentors junior staff, and supports the development of workshops and short courses on sensory science topics.
Qualifications
Strong expertise in sensory science, including experimental design, test methodology, and application of advanced sensory techniques.
Experience with consumer research, integrating sensory data with consumer insights to support product development and optimization.
Proficiency in statistical analysis and data interpretation using tools such as R, SAS, SPSS, or similar software.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects, including planning, timelines, budgets, and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Skilled in technical writing, report development, and delivering clear, compelling presentations to diverse audiences.
Proven capability in panel leadership, training, and performance monitoring for descriptive and other sensory panels.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in remote, collaborative teams.
Master’s or PhD in Sensory Science, Food Science, Psychology, Statistics, or a related field; relevant industry or consulting experience strongly preferred.
Comfort with remote work tools and digital collaboration platforms; willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings or on-site studies as needed.
Background in teaching, workshops, or professional training in sensory or consumer science is a plus.
