Vice President of Product Marketing
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and market-oriented Vice President of Product Marketing to lead the company's global Product Marketing organization and drive product positioning, go-to-market strategy, customer adoption, competitive differentiation, and commercial growth.
Reporting directly to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) or Chief Product Officer (CPO), the VP of Product Marketing will translate product capabilities, customer insights, market trends, and competitive intelligence into compelling positioning, messaging, launch strategies, and commercialization plans.
The VP will oversee Product Marketing Strategy, Product Positioning, Go-to-Market Strategy, Product Launches, Market Research, Competitive Intelligence, Customer Insights, Sales Enablement, Content Strategy, and Product Performance while working closely with Product, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Revenue Operations.
Key Responsibilities1. Product Marketing Strategy
Develop and execute the company's global Product Marketing strategy.
Align product marketing priorities with corporate, product, and revenue objectives.
Establish product marketing frameworks, processes, KPIs, and operating standards.
Develop annual and quarterly product marketing plans.
Serve as a strategic advisor to Product and Marketing leadership.
2. Product Positioning & Messaging
Develop clear and differentiated positioning for products and solutions.
Define product value propositions, messaging frameworks, and customer benefits.
Translate technical product capabilities into compelling market-facing messages.
Ensure consistent product messaging across marketing, sales, digital, and customer channels.
Continuously refine positioning based on market and customer feedback.
3. Go-to-Market & Product Launches
Lead go-to-market strategies for new products, features, and major releases.
Develop launch plans, timelines, messaging, content, and market activation programs.
Coordinate launch activities across Product, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success.
Establish launch-readiness frameworks and success metrics.
Analyze launch performance and implement post-launch optimization initiatives.
4. Market Research & Competitive Intelligence
Conduct market research to identify customer needs, market trends, and emerging opportunities.
Develop competitive intelligence programs and monitor competitor strategies.
Analyze market segments, customer behavior, pricing, and product positioning.
Provide actionable market insights to Product, Sales, and Executive Leadership.
Identify opportunities for product differentiation and market expansion.
5. Customer Insights & Product Adoption
Develop a strong understanding of customer needs, pain points, and buying behavior.
Partner with Customer Success and Sales to gather customer feedback and insights.
Develop strategies to improve product awareness, adoption, engagement, and retention.
Segment customers and markets to support targeted product marketing initiatives.
Use customer insights to influence product strategy and roadmap decisions.
6. Sales Enablement & Commercial Support
Develop product messaging, sales presentations, battlecards, case studies, and enablement materials.
Partner with Sales to improve product knowledge and sales effectiveness.
Support enterprise and strategic sales opportunities with product expertise.
Develop competitive positioning and objection-handling resources.
Monitor sales feedback and continuously improve enablement programs.
7. Product Marketing Analytics & Performance
Establish product marketing KPIs, dashboards, and reporting systems.
Monitor product adoption, market penetration, campaign performance, pipeline contribution, and conversion rates.
Measure product launch and go-to-market performance.
Analyze customer and market data to optimize product marketing investments.
Establish measurable objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for Product Marketing teams.
8. Product Marketing Team Leadership
Recruit, mentor, and develop Product Marketing leaders and professionals.
Build and scale a high-performing global Product Marketing organization.
Establish career paths, competency frameworks, and leadership development programs.
Manage product marketing budgets, resources, agencies, and strategic partners.
Foster a culture of customer focus, market intelligence, collaboration, innovation, and measurable results.
QualificationsEducation
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Product Management, Communications, Economics, or a related field.
MBA or Master's degree preferred.
Experience
20+ years of progressive experience in Product Marketing, Marketing, Product Management, Go-to-Market, or related functions.
10+ years of senior leadership experience managing Product Marketing organizations.
Proven experience leading global or multi-regional product marketing teams.
Demonstrated success with product positioning, go-to-market strategy, product launches, and customer adoption.
Strong experience with market research, competitive intelligence, sales enablement, and marketing analytics.
Experience working closely with Product, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Executive Leadership.
Strong ability to communicate with C-suite executives and senior stakeholders.
