The Role
We're looking for a part-time IoT Engineer to lead industrial hardware integration into the Onformant platform. You'll work directly with critical power equipment, including UPS systems, automatic transfer switches, generators, and PDUs, and bring their data into our cloud-based monitoring stack.
This role starts as a part-time 1099 contract, with a planned transition to full-time in Q2 2027 for the right candidate.
What You'll Do
Integrate industrial and critical power hardware (UPS, ATS, generators, PDUs) into the Onformant platform
Develop and maintain device communication using Modbus (RTU/TCP), BACnet, and SNMP
Interface with SCADA systems and industrial control environments to collect and normalize telemetry
Build and maintain Python-based data collection, polling, and parsing services
Configure Prometheus metrics pipelines and build Grafana dashboards for monitoring and alerting
Deploy and manage integration services on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Troubleshoot device connectivity, register mapping, and data quality issues
Document device profiles, integration procedures, and protocol configurations
Support on-site hardware integration and commissioning in the Tampa/Lakeland area once hybrid
What You Bring
Hands-on experience with industrial protocols: Modbus, BACnet, and SNMP
Strong Python skills for scripting, automation, and data handling
Experience with Prometheus and Grafana for metrics collection and visualization
Working knowledge of GCP or a comparable cloud platform
Familiarity with SCADA systems and industrial networking
Ability to read device documentation, register maps, and MIBs
Self-directed and comfortable working independently in a remote setting
Nice to Have
Direct experience with UPS, ATS, generator, and PDU hardware from major manufacturers
Background in data centers, critical facilities, or power systems
Familiarity with OPC-UA or DNP3
Understanding of industrial network security, including securing protocols that lack native authentication
Experience with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD workflows

Full-time opportunity in Q2 2027 for the right candidate
Remote initially, moving to hybrid in the Lakeland, FL area
$50–55/hr, depending on experience
