I. Position Overview
The Chief Innovation Officer is responsible for formulating and driving the company's overall innovation strategy. This role involves identifying new market opportunities, business models, product directions, technological trends, and operational innovations, and translating innovative concepts into actionable business projects.
Working closely with the CEO and senior management team, the CIO establishes the corporate innovation ecosystem and coordinates teams across product, technology, marketing, operations, strategy, and business development. They drive innovation projects through the entire lifecycle—from opportunity identification and proof-of-concept to scaled implementation.
II. Key Responsibilities
1. Corporate Innovation Strategy
Formulate the company's medium- to long-term innovation strategy and annual innovation plans.
Define innovation directions and priorities that align with the overall corporate strategy.
Identify shifts in technology, markets, and business models that could impact the company's future growth.
Provide strategic advice and insights on innovation trends to the CEO and senior management.
2. New Business and Growth Opportunities
Identify opportunities for new markets, products, services, and business models.
Conduct market, customer, and business feasibility analyses for potential innovation opportunities.
Drive new business concepts from early-stage validation to commercialization.
Collaborate with strategy and business development teams to evaluate potential partnerships, investments, and market opportunities.
3. Product and Technology Innovation
Collaborate with product, engineering, and technology teams to drive product innovation.
Evaluate the commercial application of AI, automation, data analytics, and other emerging technologies.
Establish mechanisms for researching technology trends and innovation opportunities.
Ensure that technological innovations align with actual customer needs and business objectives.
4. Innovation Project Management
Establish mechanisms for managing the corporate innovation project portfolio and setting priorities.
Manage objectives, resources, budgets, and milestones for key innovation projects.
Monitor project progress, risks, and commercial outcomes.
Decide whether to continue, adjust, scale, or terminate projects based on validation results.
5. Innovation Ecosystem Development
Establish internal innovation processes, methodologies, and governance mechanisms.
Drive innovation experiments, proofs-of-concept (PoC), and pilot projects.
Define evaluation criteria and investment decision-making mechanisms for innovation projects.
Create an end-to-end innovation process, from ideation to commercial implementation.
6. Cross-functional and Executive Collaboration
Maintain close collaboration with the CEO, CFO, CTO, CPO, CMO, COO, and other executives.
Coordinate across product, technology, marketing, operations, finance, and business development departments.
Facilitate rapid decision-making and execution for cross-functional innovation projects. Regularly report on the innovation project portfolio and strategic progress to senior management.
7. External Innovation Ecosystem
Establish partnerships with startups, technology companies, universities, research institutions, and industry organizations.
Monitor external innovations in technology and business models.
Explore opportunities for strategic partnerships, joint innovation, investment, or corporate incubation.
Represent the company at industry innovation forums and relevant professional events.
8. Innovation Culture and Team Leadership
Foster a corporate culture that encourages innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
Lead innovation teams and cross-functional innovation project teams.
Develop talent in innovation management, product development, and commercialization.
Establish mechanisms for evaluating innovation performance and fostering talent development.
III. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business Management, Engineering, Computer Science, Product Management, Finance, or a related field.
Typically requires 20+ years of experience in business, product, technology, strategy, innovation, or business development.
Possesses 8+ years of experience in senior management or innovation leadership.
Experience in corporate innovation strategy, product innovation, or new business development.
Experience managing projects from proof-of-concept to commercialization.
Strong capabilities in business analysis, strategic planning, and financial judgment.
Ability to communicate effectively with the CEO and senior management team.
Excellent cross-functional leadership and organizational coordination skills.
