Role Summary
We are seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Software Engineer with 3–5 years of experience to join the MPS2 engineering pod within Ford's VMI space. You will work on a mission-critical platform managing massive data sets (2+ TB database), building clean, well-tested microservices, event streaming components, and responsive APIs.
If you enjoy solving complex query performance challenges, building resilient Kafka pipelines, writing clean Java code, and collaborating through structured code reviews using modern tools like GitHub Copilot, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities1. Microservice & API Development
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code in Java and Spring Boot.
Build and maintain RESTful web services that expose business-critical marketing and incentive logic.
Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate APIs with our Angular application.
2. High-Volume Data & Query Handling
Write optimized SQL queries, stored procedures, and migration scripts (Flyway/Liquibase) for a large-scale PostgreSQL database.
Ensure data access patterns do not cause memory spikes, full-table scans, or database locking issues.
Implement pagination, batching, and streaming data retrieval mechanisms to maintain snappy API response times.
3. Event Streaming with Kafka
Build and maintain reliable Kafka consumers and producers.
Handle message serialization/deserialization, error handling, retries, and offset commits gracefully.
4. Code Quality & Modern Review Practices
Actively participate in GitHub Pull Request (PR) reviews, ensuring code matches business specs and technical design docs.
Utilize GitHub Copilot and automated security/linting gates (CodeGuardians, SonarQube) to uphold strict engineering standards.
Write comprehensive unit and integration tests using JUnit, Mockito, and Testcontainers.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 3–5 years of professional backend software development experience.
Core Stack: Strong working knowledge of Java (8/11/17) and Spring Boot (Spring Data, Spring Web, Spring Security).
Relational Databases: Strong PostgreSQL / SQL skills: indexing fundamentals, understanding execution plans (EXPLAIN), writing performant queries, and managing transactions.
Messaging: Practical experience using Apache Kafka (or RabbitMQ/ActiveMQ) for asynchronous processing and event streaming.
API Development: Solid grasp of REST API best practices, status codes, payload design, and API security.
Quality & Testing: Strong dedication to automated testing (unit and integration tests) and clean code principles.
Version Control: Solid Git fundamentals (branching, PR workflows, rebasing/merging).
Nice-to-Have Skills
Hands-on experience or working exposure to Angular (TypeScript, RxJS).
Experience with caching layers (Redis, Memcached).
Exposure to cloud platforms, Docker, or CI/CD pipelines.
