Environmental Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Engineer/Scientist (with a social background preferred) to lead and support environmental baseline studies, impact assessment and monitoring programs.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting field assessments, collecting and analyzing environmental data, and preparing technical reports (including social and gender reports), impact analyses, and management and monitoring plans. This role ensures that projects comply with environmental regulations and best practices while minimizing environmental impacts.
The role is a Full Time role; the person will be based in Lebanon (working remotely) with visits to the field in Liberia (depending on work requirements and needs).
Key Responsibilities:
· Environmental Monitoring & Field Assessments – Design and implement baseline data collection and monitoring programs, conduct field assessments, audits and sampling, operate environmental monitoring equipment.
· Data Analysis & Reporting – Process and analyze environmental data, identify trends, and prepare detailed monitoring reports aligned with regulatory and international standards.
· Impact assessment – Assess potential impacts of projects on the environment and develop mitigation measures and environmental management plans (EMPs) to minimize negative impacts.
· Regulatory Compliance and Monitoring Programs – Ensure adherence to environmental laws, project-specific commitments, and international sustainability frameworks, recommending mitigation measures and developing environmental monitoring plans where needed.
· Stakeholder Engagement & Client Support – Collaborate with regulatory agencies, clients, and communities, providing guidance on environmental performance and participating in public consultations.
· Assist in conducting gender-sensitive socio-economic assessments, baseline surveys, and social impact studies.
· Support data collection and analysis on gender dynamics, social inclusion, and community livelihoods.
· Identify potential social and gender risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
Assist in the preparation of communication materials, training content, and awareness campaigns related to gender and social inclusion.
Requirements:
· Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, physical geography, hydrology or hydrogeology, social or related fields.
· Minimum of 2 - 5 years of experience in environmental consulting, with a strong focus on report writing.
· Relevant certification is a plus.
· English proficiency and other languages are a plus, specifically French.
· Strong technical knowledge of monitoring techniques for air, water, soil, and noise pollution.
· Proven ability to prepare technical reports related to physical environmental impacts and monitoring plans.
· Experience with environmental screening, baseline surveys, and compliance monitoring.
· Familiarity with environmental regulations, permits, and international sustainability frameworks.
· Proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and GIS (an advantage).
· Ability to work in remote and challenging field environments -West African environment is a plus.
· Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
