I. Position Overview
The Vice President of Product Design is responsible for formulating and leading the company's product design strategy and establishing a design ecosystem driven by user needs and business objectives. This role holds comprehensive responsibility for product experience, interaction design, visual design, and the development of the design system.
The position involves close collaboration with product, engineering, marketing, sales, and customer experience teams to translate user insights, business goals, and technical capabilities into competitive product experiences. Additionally, the VP is responsible for building and developing the product design team, driving design standardization, optimizing design processes, fostering innovation, and ensuring that product experiences align with the company's overall brand and product strategy.
II. Key Responsibilities
1. Product Design Strategy
Formulate the company's mid-to-long-term product design strategy and development direction.
Establish product design principles, methodologies, and quality standards.
Translate corporate product strategies and business goals into clear design directions.
Evaluate industry, user, and design trends to identify opportunities for product experience innovation.
Participate in corporate product and business strategic planning, providing expert design-related advice to senior management.
2. User Experience (UX) and Product Experience (PX)
Lead the overall User Experience (UX) and Product Experience (PX) strategy.
Develop a deep understanding of target user needs, behaviors, and usage scenarios.
Drive user research, user journey analysis, and usability testing.
Optimize product information architecture, interaction flows, and core user experiences.
Establish mechanisms for the continuous collection and application of user feedback.
3. UI and Visual Design
Oversee product interfaces, visual language, and interaction design direction.
Establish unified visual design standards for products.
Ensure design consistency across various products and platforms.
Review design proposals for core products and major features.
Collaborate with the brand team to ensure product experiences align with brand positioning.
4. Design System Development
Build, manage, and continuously optimize the company's design system.
Define design components, interaction specifications, and visual standards.
Drive the adoption of the design system across different products and teams.
Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance collaboration efficiency between design and development.
Reduce redundant work and improve product development efficiency through design standardization.
5. Product Development Collaboration
Collaborate with the CPO and product management teams to define product development direction.
Work with engineering and technical teams to drive the implementation of design solutions.
Participate in product planning, requirements reviews, and product launch processes.
Balance user needs, business goals, technical feasibility, and development costs. Ensure design deliverables are completed on schedule and to a high standard, and successfully implemented in the product.
6. Design Innovation
Track trends in AI, digital products, interaction technologies, and design tools.
Explore new product design methodologies, technologies, and user interaction patterns.
Drive the effective application of AI-assisted design, prototyping, and design automation tools.
Encourage the team to engage in design experimentation and innovation.
Translate innovative outcomes into actionable product experience improvements.
7. Cross-functional Collaboration
Establish collaboration mechanisms with product, engineering, marketing, brand, sales, and customer experience teams.
Align goals and priorities across different teams during the product development process.
Support product experience design for key clients, markets, and business initiatives.
Report product design strategy, project progress, and key outcomes to senior management.
Establish effective communication channels between design and business teams.
8. Team Building and Management
Recruit, develop, and manage the product design team.
Define the design team's organizational structure, roles and responsibilities, and performance management systems.
Mentor and develop Product Designers, UX Designers, UI Designers, and Design Managers.
Implement mechanisms for design reviews, feedback, and knowledge sharing.
Foster a professional, collaborative, and innovation-oriented design culture.
9. Budget and Resource Management
Develop annual budgets and resource plans for the product design department.
Optimize the allocation of design personnel, external resources, and design tools.
Manage design vendors and external design agencies.
Adjust design resource priorities based on product strategy.
Evaluate the relationship between design investment and product business outcomes.
III. Qualifications
Over 20 years of experience in product design, UX/UI, product experience, or related fields.
Over 8 years of experience in design team management or senior design leadership.
Experience managing design for large-scale digital products, software, platforms, or complex products.
Deep understanding of UX, UI, interaction design, and design systems.
Strong product mindset, user-centric mindset, and business acumen.
Ability to translate complex business requirements into clear product design solutions.
Excellent cross-functional communication, strategic planning, and leadership skills.
Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Product Design, Computer Science, Psychology, or a related field.
Master's degree preferred.
