Volunteer role: Research Volunteer (Humanist Heritage Places)

The Humanist Heritage project has been active since 2019, working to uncover and share the long and rich history of humanist thought and action.
The Humanist Heritage website showcases the rich history and influence of humanists in the UK, and the map forms a key part of this. It features the birth and death places of key people, the locations of plaques and commemorative markers, meeting places, significant buildings, and much more.
However, not every page or person on the website has associated markers on the map, and we know there are many areas where locations of humanist significance could be discovered and added. So we would like to recruit a Research Volunteer, to focus on expanding the map on Humanist Heritage.
The volunteer will conduct research into potential sites to add to the map, including sourcing usable images, writing short descriptions, and adding to the website as appropriate. Working initially from a list of content already on the website but awaiting linked locations, there will also be scope to pursue additional areas of interest, e.g. mapping the locations of 19th century ‘halls of science’.

Our ideal candidate is someone with a genuine interest in the rich history of humanism in the UK, and in helping to uncover the innumerable places connected with this heritage. If you are keen to help us uncover hidden histories, and bring these stories to more people than ever before, we w,ould love to hear from you.

This allows you to receive mailings from the organisation, to further your understanding of the work Humanists UK does, and to inform your own volunteering practice. There is no cost to you for this registration.
