Position Summary
The Principal Consultant is a senior member of The Bailey Group’s (TBG) practice and one of its next-generation business leaders. In this primarily relationship-building and business-development role, grounded in trusted advising, not transactional selling, they build a significant, sustainable book of business by bringing credibility, curiosity, and substantive insight to every executive conversation. They sustain long-term advisory relationships with senior executives, generate new engagements through the depth and quality of those relationships, personally deliver select coaching, consulting, facilitation, and executive advisory work, and partner with TBG’s broader team to design and deliver larger engagements. They're accountable for creating new opportunities, deepening client relationships, expanding TBG’s impact, cultivating repeat clients who advocate for the firm, and contributing to its growth, service offering, and thought leadership.

What You'll Do
60-80% of Time
Building and Growing Client Relationships
Develops long-term advisory relationships with CEOs, CHROs, and senior executives through reputation, network, and quality of engagement
Converts those relationships into scoped, contracted client engagements
Serves as senior relationship owner for clients they bring in and develop, keeping executive-level contact throughout each engagement
Proactively identifies and pursues expansion, renewal, and referral opportunities in their client base
Represents TBG in the market via professional networks, associations, speaking, writing, and thought leadership
Achieves a first-year revenue target of ~$300k (~$200k from existing relationships, $100k from new relationships and business development after joining TBG)
Contributing to the Firm
Actively participates in firm leadership (pipeline visibility, service offering input, strategic direction) as part of TBG's next generation
Collaborates with the delivery team on scoping, handoffs, and quality assurance so every engagement meets TBG's standards
Contributes to TBG's intellectual capital: methodology, point of view on leadership and organizational effectiveness, and market positioning
Works closely with the CEO, Owners, and Leadership Team on the firm's future
Partners with the Sales Director and Business Development team on client needs, market trends, and referral opportunities
Sales Planning & Pipeline Management
Builds and maintains a strong, qualified Salesforce (CRM) pipeline, reporting on activity, win rates, and deal progression
Works toward an annual revenue target, understanding typical sales cycles

Collaboration, Delivery & Handoff
Acts as a trusted partner to colleagues; each consultant owns a strong client portfolio, but we achieve the most by supporting one another and putting clients first
Maintains and delivers services to select accounts
Exhibits TBG values in all interactions with teammates, partners, and clients

What You'll Bring
Proven record of building and sustaining multi-year advisory relationships with senior executives (CEOs, CHROs, and equivalent)
An established, active book of business able to generate ~$200k in your first 12 months at TBG
Comfort with a compensation model rewarding what you generate: meaningful base plus significant variable pay tied to business you develop and grow
Genuine intellectual depth in leadership effectiveness, organizational development, executive coaching, or a closely related field
Entrepreneurial instinct: you see opportunity in conversations, are comfortable with ambiguity, and don't need corporate infrastructure to do your best work
Bachelor's degree required
Significant experience selling complex, relationship-based leadership development (not transactional products); talent development, human capital, coaching, organizational development, or related background strongly preferred
Comfort with autonomy and remote/flexible work; strong self-management and organizational skills
Genuine curiosity about people, organizations, and their issues; openness to feedback
A collaborative, team-first orientation; competitive externally without compromising relationships
Willingness to represent the brand publicly (e.g., speaking, panels)
Preferred Qualifications
Coaching certification (e.g., ICF)
Formal coach training or an advanced degree in human development, adult learning, psychology, or counseling
Experience with or certification in assessments (e.g., Hogan)
Experience designing and facilitating executive team development, team coaching, complex engagements, and leadership offsites
Experience operating independently (solopreneur, small firm, or practice development role at a larger consultancy) where you personally originated client engagements
A point of view on leadership and organizations you've developed, tested, and can clearly articulate to a skeptical senior executive
Compensation & Benefits
Target first-year total compensation of ~$150,000+, with meaningful upside as your book of business grows
Market-competitive base salary plus uncapped commission
