Location: Chicago, IL
Hours: 20–30 hours per week, with additional hours available as needed
Compensation: $20–$25 per hour, based on experience
Position Summary
YOUMU Ventures is seeking a responsible, organized, and communicative Property Management & Operations Intern to assist with the day-to-day operations of multifamily properties in Chicago.
This position is ideal for a college student interested in property management, real estate, business operations, or customer service who wants hands-on experience in the operation of residential real estate.
The intern will work closely with the property management team and assist with tenant communication, maintenance coordination, property inspections, leasing support, recordkeeping, and other property-related projects.
This internship is designed as a potential pathway to long-term employment with YOUMU Ventures for strong performers.
Key Responsibilities
Respond to routine tenant questions and follow up on maintenance requests.
Coordinate repair and maintenance appointments among tenants, contractors, and property management.
Track maintenance requests and confirm that assigned work has been completed.
Assist with move-in and move-out inspections, including taking photos and documenting unit conditions.
Conduct routine property inspections and report maintenance, safety, or operational issues to management.
Maintain organized property records, including tenant files, leases, maintenance records, and occupancy information.
Respond to basic inquiries from prospective tenants and collect information such as anticipated move-in date and number of occupants.
Assist with scheduling apartment showings and, where legally permitted and under appropriate supervision, assist with leasing activities.
Create and update rental listings on approved platforms under management direction.
Help prepare tenant notices, emails, property information sheets, and other communications.
Collect and organize property-related data using Excel, Google Sheets, Google Forms, and other office tools.
Assist with weekly reports covering completed tasks, ongoing matters, property conditions, and items requiring management attention.
Coordinate with vendors, contractors, cleaning crews, and other service providers as directed by management.
Communicate professionally with tenants, prospective tenants, vendors, and contractors.
Follow company policies and applicable Fair Housing requirements in all tenant and prospective tenant communications.
Protect confidential tenant, company, and property information.
Perform other property management, operational, and administrative tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in college; students studying real estate, business, finance, hospitality, communications, or a related field are encouraged to apply.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Professional, patient, and comfortable communicating with tenants, prospective tenants, vendors, and contractors.
Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks and follow-ups.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Gmail, and Google Drive.
Able to maintain accurate records and pay close attention to detail.
Comfortable working independently while following management instructions.
Reliable transportation or the ability to travel to properties throughout Chicago as needed.
Previous experience in property management, real estate, leasing, customer service, or office administration is helpful but not required.
Residential leasing license is a plus but not required for the position.
