ABOUT FARM INSIGHTS
Farm Insights is a pre-seed agricultural technology startup building an AI-powered platform that connects farm information and helps growers, farm managers, and agronomists turn it into practical decisions and coordinated work.
Through supported connectors and file imports, we bring together information from existing agricultural software, sensor data, farm records, and field observations alongside weather and satellite data. We organize that information around individual fields and plots so teams can review it in the context of their own operations.
Our AI helps teams evaluate conditions against their plans, procedures, and history, understand what needs attention, and review possible next steps. Managers remain in control, with supporting information, decisions, and follow-up work kept with the relevant field.
Our goal is to make the tools and information farms already use more valuable; not simply add another disconnected dashboard.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced agricultural salesperson who already understands Ventura County’s buyer landscape and has established relationships with growers, farm managers, agricultural businesses, and purchasing decision-makers.
An active, relevant professional network in Ventura County agriculture is a core requirement; not something we expect you to build entirely from scratch after joining.
This is a hands-on sales role working directly with our founders and agronomy team. You will identify suitable customers, understand their operations and existing tools, demonstrate where Farm Insights can help, and move opportunities from an initial conversation to a signed agreement.
As a pre-seed startup, we are building our early customer base and refining our commercial approach. You should be comfortable creating opportunities rather than relying on a mature inbound pipeline, while working closely with the team to shape an offer customers will pay for.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Build qualified opportunities through your existing Ventura County agricultural relationships, referrals, targeted outreach, farm visits, and industry events.
• Engage the people who influence and approve purchases, including growers, owners, farm and ranch managers, agricultural management companies, and operational leaders.
• Understand how prospective customers currently use agricultural software, sensors, reports, spreadsheets, and field records. Identify where disconnected information creates extra work or makes decisions harder.
• Explain Farm Insights’ value in practical terms: bringing relevant information together, helping teams review what needs attention, and keeping decisions and follow-up work connected to the field.
• Own the sales process from discovery and qualification through demonstrations, proposals, negotiation, and close, with technical and agronomic support from our team.
• Work with the technical team to confirm supported data sources, integration requirements, and deployment scope before making commitments to customers.
• Secure clearly scoped paid pilots with agreed objectives, responsibilities, and decision timelines. Help convert successful pilots into ongoing customer agreements.
• Develop productive referral relationships with crop advisers, agronomists, irrigation providers, agricultural service businesses, and other trusted industry contacts.
• Maintain an organized pipeline and bring specific customer feedback to the founders on purchasing priorities, pricing, objections, existing systems, and product needs.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• Established, current relationships with agricultural buyers and decision-makers in Ventura County. Familiarity with the region alone is not enough.
• A demonstrated record of personally originating and closing agricultural sales. Relevant backgrounds include agricultural technology, irrigation, crop nutrition, agricultural inputs, equipment, and farm services.
• An understanding of agricultural purchasing: who influences decisions, who controls the budget, how trials are evaluated, and how seasonal priorities affect timing.
• A consultative approach. You can understand a customer’s operation, identify a specific problem worth solving, and connect the proposed solution to a credible business case.
• Comfort learning a software product and discussing how it fits alongside a customer’s existing systems. You do not need to build integrations, but you should know how to ask the right questions and involve the technical team.
• Strong follow-through, commercial judgment, and the ability to work independently without a large sales-support organization.
• Availability for regular in-person meetings and farm visits throughout Ventura County.
Experience with avocados, citrus, berries, vegetables, nurseries, or other specialty crops is relevant. Strong relationships within a meaningful customer segment are more valuable than superficial familiarity with every crop.
Agricultural software experience, an agronomic background, and Spanish-language proficiency are helpful but not required. We value demonstrated sales performance and relevant relationships more than a particular degree or previous job title.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Your initial focus will be identifying strong customer opportunities within your network, understanding their current workflows and systems, and building a qualified pipeline.
From there, success means securing paid pilots with clear objectives, helping customers evaluate the platform’s usefulness, and converting suitable engagements into ongoing business.
We will measure progress through qualified opportunities, signed agreements, revenue, and customer conversions; not introductions or meeting volume alone. Targets will be established with the founders based on product readiness, deployment requirements, and customer buying cycles.
WHY JOIN FARM INSIGHTS?
Work directly with the founders and agronomy team, help shape our commercial approach, and bring customer priorities directly into product development.
This role is suited to someone who wants to remain personally involved in selling, build an early customer base, and help an emerging agricultural technology company earn trust within an industry they already know.
