Position Summary
Mountainview Biological Consulting is seeking a Part-Time Wildlife Biologist based in the San Diego, California area. This field-based position supports a variety of biological monitoring and survey projects throughout Southern California. Work schedules vary based on project needs and may include early mornings, weekends, and occasional overnight travel.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct biological field surveys for wildlife, vegetation, and sensitive natural resources.
Perform special-status species surveys in accordance with agency protocols.
Conduct nesting bird surveys and construction compliance monitoring.
Assist with habitat assessments and biological resource inventories.
Complete detailed field notes and collect field data using Survey123, ArcGIS Field Maps, GPS units, and other mobile applications.
Prepare daily monitoring reports and communicate findings to project managers.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
Represent Mountainview professionally while interacting with clients, contractors, and agency personnel.
Work safely in remote field conditions under varying weather and terrain.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field.
One (1) or more years of biological field experience preferred.
Knowledge of Southern California wildlife species, vegetation communities, and habitats.
Experience conducting biological field surveys and environmental compliance monitoring.
Familiarity with the California Endangered Species Act (CESA), Federal Endangered Species Act (FESA), Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA), and other environmental regulations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Ability to hike up to 10 miles per day over rugged and uneven terrain while carrying field equipment.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and rough terrain.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience conducting special-status wildlife surveys.
Experience with nesting bird surveys and construction compliance monitoring.
Proficiency with Survey123, ArcGIS Field Maps, GPS equipment, and Microsoft Excel.
Experience with ArcGIS Pro or other GIS software.
Familiarity with San Diego County habitats and local wildlife species.
Wetland delineation experience or certification.
USFWS and/or CDFW survey permits are highly desirable.
