Job Purpose
The Head of Finance for Recharge & Payments will act as the key strategic and commercial financial leader for the digital payment, wallet, mobile recharge, and utility bill-pay business units. This high-impact leadership role is responsible for overseeing financial planning and analysis (FP&A), commercial transaction margins, treasury and settlement operations, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will partner closely with product, engineering, and business heads to drive profitable growth, optimize merchant payment processor networks, and implement rigorous cost control across all digital payment flows.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic FP&A & Commercial Finance
• Business Partnering: Act as the primary financial advisor to the Business Head of Recharge & Payments, steering growth strategies, product pricing models, and market expansion initiatives.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Own the end-to-end annual operating plan (AOP), rolling financial forecasts, and long-term business models across all recharge verticals (mobile, DTH, data) and utility payment options.
• Unit Economics & Margins: Deeply analyze unit economics, contribution margins, gross transaction value (GTV), and net revenue margins to optimize commissions from telecom operators and utility boards.
2. Treasury, Escrow, & Settlement Management
• Nodal/Escrow Account Management: Oversee the reconciliation and management of complex Nodal and Escrow accounts in accordance with national banking and fintech regulations.
• Cash Flow Optimization: Direct daily treasury operations, optimizing working capital requirements for immediate, high-volume transactional settlement cycles with Payment Gateways (PGs) and Payment Service Providers (PSPs).
• Bank & Partner Relations: Negotiate commercial terms with bank & Partners.
3. Financial Controls & High-Volume Reconciliation
• Automated Reconciliation: Lead the automated reconciliation framework handling millions of micro-transactions daily across customers, and biller nodes to minimize leakage.
• Risk & Fraud Control: Partner with Risk and Security teams to establish internal controls that detect, monitor, and mitigate transaction fraud, chargebacks, and double-debit operational variances.
4. Governance, Compliance, & Tax
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure stringent compliance with central bank regulations, digital payment directives, anti-money laundering (AML) laws, and know-your-customer (KYC) regulations.
• Tax Integration: Oversee the precise implementation of indirect taxes (e.g., GST) and direct withholding taxes across complex B2B and B2C recharge commission models.
• Audit Management: Facilitate internal, statutory, and regulatory compliance audits, addressing specific transactional reporting requirements for digital financial assets.
5. Leadership & Team Development
• Team Building: Recruit, mentor, and scale a high-performing finance team consisting of commercial finance managers, treasury specialists, and transaction reconciliation analysts.
• Tech Stack Evolution: Collaborate with the engineering team to deploy modern ERP systems (such as SAP FICO) and specialized fintech sub-ledgers or analytics tools.
Required Qualifications & Experience
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. An MBA in Finance from a top-tier business school or professional accounting certification (CA, CPA, ACCA, or CIMA) is highly preferred.
• Industry Experience: A minimum of 8+ years of progressive corporate finance experience, with at least 5+ years leading finance divisions within Fintech, Digital Payments, Neobanking, eCommerce, or Telecom ecosystems.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation capabilities, strong leadership presence, and the communication skills necessary to translate highly complex transactional data into executive-level strategic insights.
